Not a 500 watt equivalent, but, it is a great bulb!
Well...We replaced our 500 Watt (120v) with this LED version. I want to give it 4.5 stars. We have 18x36 pool custom shaped pool. This review is based off the #7 color - white and the #4 color - aqua I think is the color name. We liked aqua a lot better, found it almost brighter then the white!?! But, after letting white "warm up" it almost seemed brighter. In our blue liner pool I couldn't tell difference in color between the two.Pros:1. Made in America - I would re-buy it again just for that!2. Energy - 500 watts vs. 30 watts (or less)....that is the main driving factor for a lot of us I'm sure!3 Heat - We pulled out the old bulb and noticed the electrical cord had some "melt" marks (not bad, but, it got hot). This one obviously doesn't get that hot. So we don't have to worry about kids touching front of glass. HOWEVER, it does have a built in fan, so the electronics don't get hot.4. SURPRISE! - We got a little disappointed. From our 2nd story room, it looked...dim in the pool. So we came down expecting to tell the kids, sorry it is too dark. Got down and the pool was lit up just fine, it is the angle you see it. WHY is this good? The next door neighbor we heard "grumbling" about the beatles and other flying night bugs, the same time we are out there every night. The bugs were going to his pool not ours! He only had on his pool light (500 watt, incandescent). This was the first time we've had the pool we are not out their playing bug fisherman all night! When his is off (which is rare)....we still don't get bugs (well an occasional). I guess the bugs can't "see" the lights as well. Watch now I say this they will come in droves tonight!5. Cost - Yes, it is is 10x more then a regular bulb...But, comparing LED's to LED's you get way more "bang for your buck"!6. Life Span - It says it averages 100,000 hours! Wow!7. Color Change - Most of the colors are useless when solid (like others have stated). However, it color changes. It is kinda fun to turn for the kids. It does get old quickly though. I don't have teens or parties yet. So not sure if it would thrill party people on the "party" setting.Neither Pro or Con:1. Crystal clear image. Why isn't this a pro? Because it shows every single imperfection in the liner where they didn't make it absolutely perfectly flat before installing it. Which makes certain people in the family with OCD have to do a few more meditation exercises. Turning on the slide made ripples, which help alleviate being able to see the imperfections. (Well on the deep end at least). Traditional bulbs have almost a glare or reflection to them on your liner. It seems brighter with the 500 watt...this not as bright, but, again a lot clearer.Cons:1. Cost - Yes, I put this in the "Pro's category". But, with $25 for a regular 500 watt, this was a hard to spend money on up front.2. Light Output - I think somebody else already mentioned this. But, it isn't really a 500 watt equivalent. It would say more like a 300 - 400 watt (except red which I would put at a 40 watt). It however, does light it up differently (as I stated in the "Neither Pro nor Con"). It barely puts light on at our steps, which is the farthest end of the pool. It is there, and useful to get in and out of....but, not the same amount of illumination as a traditional 500 watt.Would I buy it again. Absolutely yes. It did take get myself used to a lower, yet more clear lighting. If this company ever came out with a 500 watt version. I would sell this one and buy their version of it. Until then, I'll be totally happy with this one!

White to blue are good red was very dim
Works as advertised. Color change works with light switch as explained . Wish the red was brighter only lights 25% of my pool. ( Kidney shape 20x40 10'deep) the white is the brightest @%100 the other colors are dimmer to various degrees. Fair for the money. I would pay more for a brighter light. As I said before the red was a disappointment.

Great purchase with no comperably priced competitors
I purchased an older home last year (1981) with a pool. Neither the pool or spa lights appeared to work, but I assumed that the bulbs had just burned out over time. I watched a couple videos on replacing pool bulbs, and decided that doing it myself would save a ton of money. The bulb and gasket (from Amazon) was about a third what my pool guy wanted to charge. From start to finish, the operation took a little over half an hour. The worst part was cleaning the lens (just wanted to make sure that the gasket would seal properly). When I turned on the light, I was a little worried. Not having had a pool before, I didn't really know what to expect in terms of light intensity from a pool bulb. In the daylight, the bulb was barely visible. However, once it got a bit past dusk, the bulb put out a lot of light (relative to ambient). While this light replaced a 500W halogen, the light output seems to be more comparable to a 300W halogen, on average. The intensity of the light changes considerably from color to color, with most colors being bright and well saturated. Red, on the other hand, is dreadful - the light output is extremely weak on red. I'm very happy with the bulb, and definitely recommend it. Like most LED bulbs, I expect it to last a long time - I am a little skeptical about the 100,000 hour lifespan, though... while the LEDs can probably handle that, I don't think the fan will last that long. If/when this one burns out, I'll buy another one just like it.

Wow! Really nice unit!
I looked at dozens of these before deciding on this one. I love that it is American made!I have a good size, oddly shaped pool, it had a single 500 watt incandescent bulb in it. It did a nice job of lighting the water throughout the whole pool. But, man, 500 watts is a lot of power and rarely used it. I have purchased many LED lighting products for my house. I now have every bulb replaced with LED bulbs. Energy savings is dramatic!I found out that not all LED bulbs are made the same. I found that most LED bulbs made in china are overrated on light output as well as useful life! So, when I was looking to replace the pool light, naturally I was skeptical about this one. When I saw that it was made in USA, I felt better about it.If you have a pool with a pool light, you know that changing the bulb is no easy task so I only wanted to do it once.I got this one installed and man! I was impressed with the light output. It is probably 90% as bright as the 500 watt bulb it replaced and it only uses 40 watts! That is a 92% saving in energy cost! The colors are rich and bright. The different light patterns are fun! The slow color changing effect is really nice. There is no cheap remote to loose or drop in the pool. The settings are changed by quickly turning it on off and back on. It remembers the last setting it was on so when you turn it off and then back on, you don't loose the seething you had it on last time.My kids love the "party mode", fast changing colors like a "disco party".This light might be more money, but worth overy dime!Remember, you get what you pay for.
