We added a beautiful 20’x20’ screen porch on the back of our house a couple of years ago. The porch has a tall vaulted and uninsulated ceiling. Three walls of the porch are screened with vinyl windows; one side of the porch is attached to the house and is mainly doors and glass windows.Self-quarantining during the pandemic convinced us to look for heaters to extend use of the porch. This is a somewhat tall order since we live in Minnesota. We first tried the cheapest option—floor space heaters—but these consistently tripped the circuit breaker. The next step was to search for more powerful, wall-mounted heaters. Our porch has a modern vibe to it with the ceiling, wall posts, and soffits painted in two shades of white. So, we did not want industrial-looking wall mounted heaters. This led us to the Bromic Platinum Smart Heat Electric Heaters in white and we are so happy that we found them.The next design decision was whether to attempt to heat the entire porch or only the seating areas (about one-third of the porch is occupied by a queen bed for summer sleeping). We went with heating the seating areas to hold down costs—a wise decision since we didn’t know how well the heaters would work in Minnesota conditions. So, we purchased one 2300w heater and one 3400w heater and had professional electricians pull a dedicated 240amp line.The heaters were installed a month ago and the results exceed our expectations! They look outstanding, blending into the feel of the porch perfectly. And, they actually provide warmth on cool Minnesota days. For example, today in mid-April, it will be a balmy 45 degrees and the heaters will make it perfectly comfortable for a mid-day nap. The heaters do not work instantaneously and I turn them on about 15 minutes before going on the porch. But, they work perfectly and look so cool!
