A fair introduction on how to write persuasive headlines with a few caveats.
What Advertising Headlines does well is give you a basic introduction on how to write headlines that nudge people to read what you have to say whether that appears in a print article, online ad, or a commercial. The key word is basic because you will in no way be a guru of headline writing when you are done reading this book. What you will be equipped with are 20 proven headline templates that can be tailored to your specific needs. Why are headlines important? Because as the author describes, headlines are what determine whether or not a person will read your copy, and, by implication, whether or not they buy what you are selling.Part I of the book has twenty chapters each of which is devoted to a proven headline that works like, “Get Rid of that Nasty Habit Once and For All.” The author then gives about a dozen tweaks of his headline for specific businesses and then provides a few paragraphs on how to adapt the formula behind the headline to meet your unique goals. Each “chapter” is only about 1-2 pages on a Kindle so the logic that goes behind the headline is very sparse.Part II of the book has ten brief chapters on what makes powerful headlines and why certain techniques work better than others. Here, you will find some useful nuggets like, “Where most people go wrong with headlines,” and “10 golden rules for writing powerful headlines.” A unique benefit is a section on how to apply techniques to Google Adwords and personal websites.Potential readers should note and be prepared that scattered throughout Advertising Headlines are unwelcome intermissions where the author invites you to stop and buy his even more expensive advertising programs. As far as value is concerned, I paid $10 for the Kindle version which in my opinion is a bit of a stretch. Certainly if I paid $25 or more for the print version, I would be highly disappointed.

One Headline I Stole From This Book ACTUALLY Made Me Rich
The book delivers EXACTLY what it promises. How do I know? One of the titles in here, literally made me rich.I wrote an article using one of the titles in here and generated over 3 million visitors to an article which ultimately led to the acquisition of my online publication (AllFacebook.com).While yes, the content is incredibly simple, it's a book filled with great headline examples. To take simple content at face value is incredibly foolish. There is no doubt that there is a headline in this book that you can use to sell pretty much anything. I toss the vast majority of non-fiction books that I own but this one has survived the test of time. It's always sitting with the small stack of books that I actually want keep.If you want a course on copywriting, then go somewhere else. However if you want a massive list of headlines and explanations on WHY they work, then get this book. Given that headlines account for 90% of the effectiveness of copy (wish I had a stat for this), this book is priceless.Best of all, you can get the kindle version if you really don't want to cough up the money for the hardcover version! This wasn't an option when I first got the book as the Kindle didn't yet exist :) I have bought this book for others and I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a simple yet HIGH IMPACT copywriting book.

Transparent Method for Creating Headlines
Finally, someone that gives the reader exactly what they are looking for, a transparent method for creating headlines. When you have a business to run and you need to bring in more traffic there is no time to go back to school or read piles upon piles of books just to create an effective ad. Also, you don't have money to burn to hire a marketing professional that doesn't produce the desired results with their work.So "Advertising Headlines that Make You Rich" is a godsend book that gets right to the point by providing over 250 headlines that can be practically used for any industry. Reading the book was quick, it took me less than a day to read. There was no fluff or nothing unreasonable like the author speaking to you as if you are suppose to know marketing jargon or telling you to do something you never done before. As a business owner I'm not looking to get a marketing degree, just find something simple and effective, so I can focus on what I do best... running my business. If you're a small business owner, aspiring entrepreneur, or network marketer that would like an easy do-it-yourself guide that gets the job done then purchase this book. There are literally, thousands of books on people telling you what to do, but very few on people showing you what to do, and David Garfinkel clearly understands that. You won't go wrong purchasing this book.

It's a Swipe File... And That's All...
Look, this is a swipe file of advertising headlines, and that is basically it... there are a few chapters at the back that go into headlines, but nothing I wouldn't rate as higher than "basic level" information. On the front of the book, it says "Bonus 2 Free CDs - $97 Value - Details Inside". But I can't find any information about this offer anywhere inside the book... dissappointed, but I bought it thinking there weren't any bonuses anyway...Look, this books is OK and you'll get some good headlines for your swipe file, but I'd recommend the first few chapters of "Tested Advertising Methods" by John Caples ahead of this book any day. Caples provides far and away more info in those few chapters than you'll get in this entire book... and it's alot cheaper than this book as well!Or google the term "advertising headlines"... you'll find the same headlines on a number of free websites... I just tried it and it worked!

Do You Recognise the 7 Early Warning Signs of Being Conned?
297 Killer Variations on 20 Basic Headlines That Will Make The Author Rich!Yes, I'm afraid this is a cynical review but what else is there to say?How about this? There are 133 numbered pages in this book of which 37 pages are completely blank. (There are also several 'chapters' that end with three lines on top of an otherwise blank page, and there are an awful lot of half blank pages, but I didn't count those.)Why are all these pages blank? So that you can write your notes there, stupid, not because it's an easy way to pad out a book! Duh!Okay, but there are 297 Killer headlines right? It says so at the top of the table of contents!Wrong again my friend. There are actually 20 BASIC headlines and each headline is allocated its own 'chapter' of four pages. Two of those pages will be made up of a dozen or so variations on the headline such as, 'Do you make these computer mistakes?' 'Do you Make these Web Marketing Mistakes' 'Do you make these Reading Mistakes' 'Do you make these home Plumbing mistakes' and the other two pages will be completely blank (for those notes, remember).Clunk.That was the sound of my head hitting the keyboard. There's got to be something of value in this book hasn't there?Correct. Each so-called 'chapter' has a few lines explaining how the headline works and giving hints on making it work better, and these are definitely worth reading.Furthermore right at the very end of the book (p87 - p94)you get a 'Bonus 50 MORE killer headlines' (his words) which are well worth having. And there's a 'chapter' (p113-p115) on 'What do winning headlines look like', another one 'Real world examples:headlines from internet marketing' (p117-p127) and another one on '10 golden rules for writing powerful headlines' (p129 - p132) that have some golden nuggets in them.Still, this book could have been written in 25 pages and sold for a quarter of the price .... but anyone who's read e-books knows that if you don't have a lot of content you surround it with hype and multiply the price by 10 ...What else is there? Well, it's fairly formulaic in that it has a whole load of testimonials at the front (copywriters love these) and a Bonus#1 and Bonus#2 chapters (always at the bottom of long sales letters) and right on the front cover in big bold letters 'Bonus 2 Free CDs! $97 Value!'The CDs didn't fall out when I opened the book, and I found nothing inside the front or back cover explaining where they were, so I looked at the front page again.Oh dear. In smaller print, 'Details Inside'.Hmmm, can't find them anywhere. Ah, here they are, hidden on an inside page. They look good - you only have to pay for the postage - and they might be good, but by now my cynicism is setting like concrete and I don't order.Instead, I read to the back of the book.'Your Next Step,' it says. 'Author David Garfinkel has created an entire, comprehensive and easy-to-use systme for writing advertising. His System is called 'Copywriting Templates.''Cool, I think, maybe this guy is genuinely trying to help me. Let's go to the link he's given and see what he's offering.Oops! He wants my credit card details and (wait for it) $1197Damn!I pick myself up and sit in my chair.Hmmm, let's check out those testimonials once more. They were genuine, weren't they? Not from people he knew looking to help out a mate and gain some exposure at the same time? Perish the thought!Well, you decide for yourself."Should be mandatory reading for business owners!""David Garfinkel has done it again! This masterful writer, in this on-the-button book, provides you not only with 297 killer headlines, but helps you earn $297,000 in extra profits and save $297,000 because now you won't have to run ads with less than superb headlines! If there was ever a book that should be mandatory reading for business owners, this is it. I want to give David a high-five for writing it, but I'll give him a high 297 instead!"Jay Conrad Levinson, Author, Guerrilla Marketing series of books. So here's my summary - some nuggets of information, cynically packaged. It's sold in a formulaic way and ended up leaving me with a very bad taste in my mouth (it cost $47 don't forget). Is it worth buying?Yes, but know what to expect. And if you're using these headlines then use them honestly. There's nothing worse than buyers remorse, which can lead to lousy reviews like this.

Who Else Wants a Copywriting Book That Makes You Look Like a Star?
David has written a book for those of us that need a little inspiration (usually in time for a short deadline). You are seeking a form of words for your headline or subject line that won't mangle your project's outcomes. Better, you want a headline that'll catapult results. In this book, you have space to write your variants of proven headline winners. Don't just copy, adapt. David creates a formula you can easily follow per headline to help you develop the headline that will work best for you. Whether you are a business-owner, copywriter or content writer - buy this book.

Why some reviews are almost always better to read than others.
In all honesty, the content is decent. It's more of a quick guide/manual rather than a book. The headlines are decent and adaptable, and I have already seen them work. I would argue that there is nothing in here that you couldn't glean from reading the contents, apart from perhaps the 50 extra headline suggestions. It has added value to my writing, but I do think it is overpriced for what it contains. If you go for it, get the kindle version. You pay your money and take your choice.

found it really useful
I had read quite a few disappointing reviews on this book and was very hesitant to buy the book. But I found this book to be really useful. The headlines template are really good and you are bound to find one that can be reused for your product or service. The only downside to this book is that I expected more material on how to write good advertising headlinesI am glad I ignored all the negative reviews and bought the book.

This is an excellent book on writing headlines
This is an excellent book on writing headlines. It gives you the 'formula' for some of the classic headlines and explains, clearly, how to adapt those to a variety of businesses. If you write copy, it's worth having in your library in order to get the juices flowing if you're stuck.
