Paperback and board books texts differ
We have had the board book for some time and my 2.5yo loves it. I enjoy reading it to him, as do his older sisters. The text is very simple and there is so much to see and chat about in the pictures. Then I bought the paperback version for a friend's child, for their birthday, and I'm surprised to see that the text is different from the board book. I have included two photos for comparison. These are the main differences:The names of the market traders are in the paperback version. In the paperback version, the baby is given characteristics, which are the reasons he is given things by the market traders eg baby is curious, baby is funny etc. Unfortunately, baby is also naughty. I'm not keen on this, as the traders give the things to baby *because* he is funny/sorry/curious, rather than just giving them. For me this takes away from the story a bit! In the board book, it just says 'Baby loves bananas, baby loves bananas so much that the man selling bananas gives baby six bright bananas'.The paperback version says 'Mama does not notice, she is too busy buying chili peppers/rice/etc' which is omitted in the board book (it is told through the pictures). There are a few other lines in the paperback, which are not included in the board book, such as 'Mama thinks her sweet baby must be hungry by now' and 'we need to get home quick and fast!'All in all, we love this book!

Love!
This book is so cute. Herd my bestie reading it to my godsons and made me want to get it. I was so excited to read it to my little one. Although I’m Caribbean the pictures of the market is the book is so relatable with what we have in our country as well so I’m able to introduce those conversations to my little one and show him an example of what his native country is like. It’s such a cheerful book, love it

Absolute Classic
Our baby loves it. We even used the plot to stage a little theatre thing for her and her friends.

Wonderful book, but why change it?
Adored this book for some time, thrilled to find they make a board book version... But why have they changed the text for the board book? They've taken out the names and it just says man. We loved Mr Momo the biscuit seller and so on. Feels like they've westernised it/toned it down. Disappointing.
