First French Dictionary (DK First Reference) Hardcover – March 20, 2018

Excellent resource for my son's first semester French course in high school. It has the usual pages like any picture dictionary, but it also has sections in the back for: verbs, questions/common expressions, a French-to-English dictionary and an English-to-French dictionary. Every word is sounded out, so he can check his pronunciation.It's a good mix of a standard French dictionary and a common picture dictionary.

This has enough substance to be appropriate for my fifth grader, but isn’t so dense or intimidating to turn off a beginner.

Just checked this and a few other french dictionary for kids out from the library before choosing one to buy. This is the only one that showed proper pronunciation. It also uses real pictures instead of cartoons to show items. It has pages that show words with a theme (body, travel), it has a section with colors and numbers, and a phrases section. The back pages are dictionary pages where you can look individual words up. I like how it's designed, but the pronunciation that is key.

Lovely illustrations and well presented. As a Junior School French teacher I would highly recommend this book for young children.

This book has clear, easy to find pictures.. It has references for both English to French and French to English that young children can use independently (once you teach them how). I am using it with a 7 year old who can read. He uses the indices at the back and uses the theme pages to find words. The book gives pronunciation using phonetic spelling beneath each French Word.

Motivates my daughters interest and understanding of French language

Great book, my 6 year old daughter wanted to practice French at home.
