Are You Being Served? - The Complete Collection: Seasons 1 to 10 + Grace & Favour Season 1 & 2 (Are You Being Served? Again!) + The Remake + The Movie - Including All Extra's

We haven't started rewatching yet, as we are rewatching on an off another BBC TV series just now, so I write per the original series that we watched week after week on TV. It's enormous fun, and all the acting is perfect. It's hard to pick a favourite character therefore.. they are all so iconic. Highly recommended!!!

This is excellent set but I can't seem to get rid of Dutch subtitles?

As there are plenty of reviews already for the series itself, I'll confine my comments to the presentation and physical quality of this Dutch set...The advantage of this set above equivalents from other countries is that the episodes are complete. Unlike the BBC's own releases, there are no cuts for "political correctness".For the regular AYBS episodes, overall the audio quality is excellent but the picture quality less so - there's a notable "fuzziness" in many scenes. It's difficult to know whether this is due to the DVD mastering technique itself or the use of "nth"-generation videotape dubs. However I'm being overly fussy here and, visually, the episodes will be acceptable to most viewers...... except for the fourth season's "The Father Christmas Affair" - which has a history of being cut for UK video/DVD releases and TV screenings. While the episode appears complete here, there is highly notable dip in both video and audio quality.A more alarming problem afflicts the whole of the final (tenth) season. The DVD authoring for this has been imbued with excessive digital compression in order to squeeze the episodes onto a single disk. The unacceptable result is a highly "pixellated" picture throughout. Frankly it is not up to professional industrial standards.There have clearly been manufacturing problems as well. My disk for the first season of 'Grace & Favour' (the spin-off from AYBS) has a notably "milky" sheen, rendering it unplayable on some models of DVD players, notably older Pioneer ones. More modern machines - perhaps with better error-correction capabilities - appear to work around such defects.For the second season of 'Grace & Favour', the final episode cuts off halfway through the end credits - and returns to the main menu - towards the end of the final episode.The AYBS movie is of acceptable audio and video quality.The packaging of the set is fine and sturdy.Overall, then, a good set for its content and those who don't like paying the BBC to employ a team of scissor-monkeys. But it is let down by some visual presentation issues and disk authoring faults, which detract from what would otherwise be a five-star award.

Great series and DVD set, sadly its German product and writing (not the dvd its English)

Shame the box details and subtitles are not in English. I thought it was German. However just seen other comments saying it is Dutch.Shame as my Dad needs the subtitles as partially deaf at 82.A bit of a struggle at times.On the whole thoroughly enjoyable as love the show.I love the best comedies from the 1970's.Don't like most of the 21st century rubbish that is supposed to be funny! Not.

The Writing on the box and on the DVD’s is in Dutch so a bit worrying at first, but they play in English with or without Dutch subtitles so they’re ok
