Anno's Mysterious Multiplying Jar

I attended a workshop on combining mathematics and children's literature. This was one of the books we used. It's a simple story that encourages multiplication practice. All children love to be read to; here's a chance to hook your young mathematician through an engaging picture book.Anno's Mysterious Multiplying Jar isn't meant to be a "who-done-it" mystery. It's a cummulative tale, delightfully illustrated, that takes each product and turns it into another factor. Lower grades can enjoy the story and only attempt the multiplication of the first few levels. Upper grades can take the multiplication much further. The final product is a surprisingly large number.

My 8 yr old loved this book! It starts out as a simple story and then WOW! Its pretty cool how the numbers multiply. After reading we were looking factorials of 1,000 and 1,000,000 - awesome book!

I already own some Anno books. He surely give us a different perspective of math and how it works. I really like it. My children enjoyed Anno's books when they were smaller and then when a bit older we enjoyed them together - trying to figure out what he wanted to show us. I think it stretched my head.

We love books about math that make concepts easy to visualize. Doubly so (pun intended) when they have beautiful illustrations. This book manages to teach the idea of multiplication along with the mathematical concept of factorials! (exclamation point pun also intended) And you just won't believe what all fits inside Anno's jar.

Some kids will find it easy to understand, some won't. Depends on if they are more mental or pictoral at math.

This book is part of our "math classics" collection. It's easy to read, illustrations are excellent, and the concept is taught efficiently and effectively. Excellent- like all of Masaichiro Anno's books.

These are great books, works of art, and teach a great deal. My daughter loves to read them over and over.

This is a great book. I read to my almost 6 year old and she lived the illustrations but didn't fully grasp the whole concept - party though which is fine for her age. It's a keeper and we will refer to it over the years.

What a wonderful book.It really makes children think about how numbers multiply quickly .there we some ooooh's and aaaaaah's when I shared this book with my class.I used a real blue and white jar as well just to add to the 'magic'

Anno Masaichiro writes such perfect books to entice everyone into thinking about mathematical things. The illustrations also mean that there are plenty of things to look at on every page. Thank you.
