Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Movie Slipcase Hardcover – 29 July 2014

I have a few movie and video game 'Art Of' books in my collection, with this being my first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I'd have to say that this is one of the best.Virtually all of the 334 pages are packed with some stunning concept art and notes and is split into 9 chapters. Each detailing some pretty cool concept art by Andy Park, Charlie Wen, Jackson Sze, and a lot more for our protagonists, the villains, minor characters, weapons and certain key scenes, including one scene broken down into the storyboards by David Krentz. It's interesting to see how each of the characters developed from concept all the way to screen.If you like the behind the scenes look at the early imaginings and concepts and the developments all the way until the finished product on the screen, then get this book. If you loved the film, as quite a few people have, get this book. It even comes in a sturdy slipcase too. 'The Art Of Guardians Of The Galaxy' is well worth picking up.

Every page is a work of art in this behind the scenes book from the massively successful Marvel film from 2014.Coming in from near obscurity the film appealed to comic fans, critics and the general public because of its mix of humour, character development, music and visual spectacle.A slipcase protects the book which contains gorgeous artwork, character designs, prop designs and information on the film.Every page is a work of art and I recommend this to any Marvel or Guardians of the Galaxy fan.

Excellent look at the digital artwork that went into the sci-fi epic box office hit. Densely packed with concept art, lots of beautiful digital renders of the characters, ships, and key scenes from the film (not much on set design though).Reproduced a little dark for my taste, darker than seen online and that drops it a star. I could have done with seeing the doodles and sketches that showed the process of arriving at the images; what you get is (very nice) finished renders but the development is missing to a degree which is a shame. It's always fun to see what could have been. But a great art book to have.

If you enjoyed Guardians Of The Galaxy for even a second, this book has something for you.This Art of The Movie book highlights not only the stunning visuals themselves but how they are helping inform the direction of the movie and the understanding the reasons behind these choices. The art itself is worthy of hanging framed for all to see and allows you to find things that were only on screen for seconds but that should be seen and enjoyed for much longer. It stands as a testiment to all the creative people that made it all possible.Get engaged with the worlds, races and characters created for one of the best comic book movies with this hefty slab of book.(Warning: This thing is quite heavy :) Reading it on a cushion on the lap can really save the knees)

Just brilliant. The artwork is as stunning as the film, and the concept design and evolution fascinating. There is enough here to fill a couple of Galaxies at least.

Purchased as a gift. The recipient was certainly very pleased with it. Beautifully presented in a hard slip case.

Excellent book to have for any Marvel fan of this new franchise. I recommend this book to all my friends. Buy it and see for yourself.

Die Aufmachung des Artbooks, samt Schuber wirkt sehr hochwertig.Vom Inhalt her gibt's auch nicht zu meckern, wenngleich ich mir mehr Konzept Skizzen gewünscht hätte, aber das ist Geschmackssache. Von der Aufmachung und dem Inhalt her würde das Artbook volle Punktzahl von mir erhalten.Negativ fallen mir allerdings Layout, Prepress und vor allem Druckumsetzung auf.Vielleicht sehe ich das etwas anders, da ich im grafischen bereich tätig bin, aber einige Seiten sind unschön layoutet.Es wurden z.B. Charakterabbildungen direkt über der Mitte der Doppelseiten platziert, sodass diese nicht wirklich erkennbar sind (z.B. S.122/123)Einige der Bilder sind ziemlich unscharf, was daher rührt, dass Conceptart und Speedpainting heute eben am Rechner passiert und nicht in Druckauflösung produziert wird. Trotzdem hätte man das besser lösen können.Der gravierendste Punkt ist für mich allerdings das Druckbild.Das ist bis auf wenige Seiten, die Außenansichten zeigen durchweg zu dunkel, die Farben generell zu verschmutzt, geraten.Gerade zu einem Film wie G.o.t.G., der von dern Farben her richtig rausknallt und auch eine entsprechende Stimmung rüber bringt, hätte ein farbenfrohes, vor allem nicht so düster gehaltenes Artbook gepasst. Das vorliegende passt vom Charakter eher zu Warhammer, oder Riddick als zu G.o.t.G..Das Buch wurde zwar in den USA gedruckt, schneidet aber im direkten Vergleich zu Artbooks, die in China gedruckt wurden, wie z.B. Halo 4, oder Exodissey, die von den Farben her richtig leuchten, eher eher schlecht ab.Sicher rührt auch das aus mitunter aus dem Ursprung der Illustrationen. Digital am Bildschirm gibt eben doch doch mehr her, als später in 4c gedruckter Form. Allerdings trifft das mittlerweile wohl auf alle Artbooks zu Filmen und Spielen zu und ist keine Entschuldigung mehr.Außerdem gibt's hierfür die Reproabteilung, die den Farb- und Kontrastverlust von RGB zu CMYK aufarbeiten muss.Das wurde hier miserabel betrieben, wenn überhaupt!Fazit: Mir gefallen die Artworks sehr gut, leider ist die Umsetzung etwas misslungen. Schade!

Wenn Marvel was macht dann RICHTIG.Ein hammerhartes ART OF BOOK. Es ist einfach eine Wonne sich die über 300 Seiten feinsten KonzeptArtworks anzusehen.Das bringt einem echt Frühlingsgefühle.Die Verpackung ist auch genial. Ein Schuber aus sehr fester Kartonage. Aber nicht einfach so nen Faltding, sondern sehr stabil und super verarbeitet.Für jeden Marvel Fan ein echtes Muß.

J'ai tout aimé dans GOTG, le scénario, les personnages, etc, et l'esthétique contribue à faire du tout une oeuvre qui marche, qui donne un grand sourire d'enfant au public, et qui donne envie de revoir le film tout de suite. Il y a des couleurs! Rendez-vous compte, des couleurs dans un film de super-héros! Bon en même temps, ça s'y prête. Ils mettraient des couleurs dans un Batman, je pense que ça me plairait beaucoup moins. Mais revenons au bouquin: il est très beau, bien imprimé, l'intro de James Gunn est superbe, les explications qui accompagnent chaque chapitre sont intéressantes, et tout le travail présenté (pré-production / production / post-production) est magnifique. Pour ceux qui aiment le côté "processus créatif" des making of, les jolies choses, et le film, c'est un super cadeau à s'offrir, ou à offrir à d'autres si l'on est pris par un soudain élan d'altruisme.

Com mais de 300 páginas, esse é um Artbook que vale a pena pela quantidade de informação sobre a produção artística do filme. Storyboards de cenas completas, diversos concepts de personagens e várias artes incríveis.Vale muito a pena!

Wie üblich ein wunderbares Art-of-Book von Marvel. Ein sehr stabiler Schuber beinhaltet das großformatige Buch, welches viele Abbildungen und informative Texte enthält.

Marvel leistet wie immer in seinen Art-Books unglaubliche Arbeit und es ist für jeden Sammler eine super Entdeckung! Weiter so! Auch GOTG-ART BOOK war jeden Cent wert! Einfach unglaubliche Worte und Bilder!
