Excellent Book
I bought this as a Christmas present for my sixth grade son who is a young history buff. He was excited when he opened it and jumped right into reading it. He has enjoyed it and it has also led to some very interesting discussions. The book is not overly long or too difficult. The author uses an excellen technique of opening the story with the coronation on Christmas day in 800 A.D. which worked perfectly into hooking my son into wanting to know the background behind this fascinating scene. The book is a fine quality paperback with good cover and is comfortable to read. It arrived promptly and in good condition. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great at giving you all the basics of the life and times of Charlemagne.
I found the book to be very informative. The author was very succinct in getting all of the necessary information across, he didn't waste time on unnecessary commentary. I also think he did an excellent job of being objective. I'm quite glad I read the book.My only complaint what that the writing style was a little dry. However, it was originally written in German (I think), so it may be partially the translators fault.

Excellent
An excellent book considering that there is so little known about the man. . If you like history then this is for you. But don't expect a completely fleshed out biography. There is very little to work with. However, the author has done an excellent job filling in some of the blanks. A good and a fairly quick read.

I really liked this book. i bought the book to get to read the finish of one borrowed in Mexico. Joy!! it was the wrong book.
This book explained a lot that the other only referred to. And missed some things altogether. I liked both authors. One day I’ll look up the other book again and then read both together. With their differing styles and agendas I think there will be a much fuller understanding of the elusive monarch Charlemagne.Redkiter1

Charlemagne another biased book on a Great Warrior
I own a hardcover with dustjacket copy of this book, this is sadly another biased look at Charlemagne a Great Warrior and Defender of Christendom. Midway through the book you get the sense the author does not care much for The Great King nor his achievements despite being in the book those achievements. The professor does not credit Him with Saving the West from heretics and barbarians and of course criticizes the Church then concludes the book by the well-deserved mythology of him and goes about lambasting that. A too critical look at The Man, only good thing was it was short therefore I did not have to torture myself more reading over 130 pages of this short yet unfair diatribe.

Quick read
The book wasn't exactly the world's most interesting read, but it was short enough that you get all the major details of his life without losing interest.

Dreadful.
One of the most badly written books I have ever read. It skips around the facts constantly introducing new subjects without explanation.Tedious and tiresome, I had to give up reading it and I am really interested In the subject.
