The Solar Sun Ring is a passive solar swimming pool heating device made from two sheets of heavyweight U.V. resistant vinyl. The upper clear layer holds insulating air and focuses sunlight on the blue colored lower layer. The blue layer absorbs about 50% of the sunlight and converts it to heat. The balance of the sunlight is allowed to pass through for deep water heating.

They heat better than the 12 ml solar cover
The Solar rings do exactly what it is stated. Do they heat better than the 12 ml solar cover - most definitely! Put your hand under the rings and the water is warm or hot. Do that with the solar cover and barely warm. However for an 18' diameter pool I needed 10 rings. I found I did need a tire pump to inflate them. The last 11 years 1 have spent $150 every 3 years to 4 years for a 12 ml. solar cover which disintegrates after 3 or 4 years. Along with the solar cover I have two solar heaters and at night I covered it with the winter blanket. We would lose 6 degrees every night and then take all day to regain it. Now with the solar rings I'm not putting the winter blanket on at night. We lose 1 to 2 degrees overnight. I'm not turning the filter and solar heaters on until 11 am and on a cloudy day not at all. Before with the cover the filter and heaters were turned on at 7 am. I recommend them. Hope they last more than 3 to 4 years. I'm in the Pacific NW.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
I am sorry I didn't write a review earlier (busy), but I'm here now, so here it goes. Let me start start by saying I spent $400 dollars on this "terrible product." I wish I would have known now because (1) I would have complained to Amazon about the terrible customer service and response time; and (2) I wish I would've returned the product immediately upon receipt. IN ANY EVENT SHOULD YOU NOT READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW... here's the easiest way to get results at probably 1/8th cost or $50US. Buy the pool blue pool bubble wrap. Cut it to the shape of your pool, then cut 3 feet off at each end exposing the water to the sun and air. It'll work perfectly. WHAT I AM GOING TO WRITE HERE IS 100% TRUE. So let me start with this. This product, SOLAR SUN RINGS, is nothing more than an over-priced blow up beach volleyball. There are huge issues with the "Quality" "Cost" "Product Claims" "Shipping" and "Customer Support." SO HERE'S A LIST OF THE ISSUES. I ordered 2 sets of 6. The didn't all come at once. First it was 6. A week later 3. A few days later 3 more. Like I said, beachballs. They are very difficult to blow up. The nozzle are tiny; 1 for the loop, one for the bed. You can't fill them all the way up because they bend and won't sit on the water correctly. That doesn't matter because really, they don't warm up you pool unless it's only 2-3 feet deep. Taking them on and off is a NIGHTMARE and you will get soaked pulling them off. They get very dirty. The center catches all the dirty and leaves. So you have to spray them off AFTER you take them out of the pool. 2 off the rings came with holes in them. IT TOOK WEEKS FOR SUPPORT TO RESPOND AND WEEKS TO HEAR A REPLY. At the end they said they would send me two more IF I COULD RETURN THE ORIGINAL TWO WITH THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING. The packaging was Saran Wrap and a FLYER with each ring. I wrote them to complain AGAIN... they never responded hoping I'd just forget. REMEMBER BEACHBALL? This product DOES NOT STAY INFLATED. The sun breaks down the O2. So you'll have to re-blow up each ring every 4-8 days. That sucks! Another thing is your pool will look like an AD for this company 24/7. Putting the rings back on the pool is a nightmare. Instead of pulling a tarp over the poolin one swoop. You have to place each ring in individually. You can throw them in, or toss them like a frisbee because they fold like a taco. So in closing DO NOT BU THIS PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER POOL RING ON AMAZON. THEY ARE INSANELY OVERPRICED AND THE QUALTY IS TERRIBLE. AND SHAME ON AMAZON FOR EVEN ALLOWING A PRODUCT OF THIS NATURE ON THEIR SITE. SO THE COMPANY WE PURCHASED THIS FROM... I WANNA A FULL REFUND. NO QUESTIONS ASKED NO ORIGINAL PACKAGING. 12 RINGS in EXCHANGE FOR $400.00. DS

not worth the effort
they don't seem to raise the water temp very much. they blow around in the wind, folding over, on top of each other, and even out of the pool. i have to remove them before the pool guy comes each week. having them in the pool felt like a chore instead of a help. they would probably work better in the warmer weather. i live in S. florida, so 'cold' here for me is 60's.

Waste of money
Arrived with half the rings leaking. Contacted customer service and they want you to cut the air valve off and send back to them on your dime. These are very cheap and possibly one of the modern century greatest rip offs

Looking good and doing there job well...
Very Nice. Much larger then expected. A bit tricky to inflate properly but once you get it they work well and look good. These have magnets which keep them together. Just for reference, I live in South Florida and my pool is fully screened in...so far so good. Happy with purchase.

Works well!
My only complaint is that some of them do not last that long. Ones we bought last year, would not hold the air this year; so we ordered this pack of 6 as replacements. Otherwise, they work wonderfully. Keeps the pool warm. Easy to move and clear a little section if only going in the pool for a little dip or take all of them out to clear the pool completely.

Mixed bag
The sun rings are more attractive and easier to handle than a solar cover, however less effective. Easy to inflate, but very fragile towards punctures. One of six rings I ordered deflated almost immediately and all of them need some re-inflation once in a while.

Not worth it for us, here in SoCal
We bought these solar rings hoping to warm up the water a bit for our kids in April/May so swimming was a bit more comfortable. Not only did 3 out of the 6 deflate and become useless after about three weeks (and we couldn't ever get them inflated properly again after that - kept losing air), but we aren't convinced they significant;y warmed the water. They are easy enough to set up and put out in the pool, but kind of a pain to take out, but that's not specific to this brand of rings, just solar rings in general. They're as large as the rings left behind by the previous homeowners, so comparable to another brand in that way. Overall though, a big waste of over a hundred dollars on our part.
