Samson Tubular Aluminum Splicing Fid 1"

Overall I'd say it is worth the money. More importantly it is a useful and functional tool. If you splice 1" double braided rope, get one.Worked well for me to do eye splices on 1" double braided rope. I also used it on some 3/4 dyneema 12 strand. It was a little large but seemed to work OK. I didn't have the correct fid. I'd recommend buying the correct size for your rope diameter. It will make life easier.It is marked with 2 lines for the short fid length. This is nice to have when splicing. Not all fids I've used are marked for a short fid length.It is made in the USA. So, that's awesome. Most fids are hollow tubes, this looks like it was made from bar stock. It is not hollowed except for the first couple of inches where you burry the end of the rope. This gives the pusher a surface to push on. Making it easier to use than hollow fids. It is very heavy compared to a fully hollow fid.Imprinted on it is "1 (inch) 24mm" Samson must be indacating the rope size not the fid diameter. The fid it's self is approximately 3/4 of an inch. It's a little pedantic but 24mm is not 1", 25.4mm = 1". I have no idea why companies have a hard time with this. As I said I think they stamped the rope sizes not the fid sizes.
