Quality when you need mobility.
Update**Still a fan of the design. But the welds are junk. Fortunately i have a buddy with a welder. Taking it down to two stars.Welds are junk and have needed to be put back together.Four stakes are a must if you are hanging any weight on it at all. Contrary to my previous statement, two do not get the job done.I still use the stand and like the concept, but there are better options out there.Really like this product as a well built portable target stand. Doesn't show this but it also comes with a locking bolt that keeps the stand together as well as 2 very solid stakes. 4 stakes would have been great, but two get the job done. Depending on what you have hung, a good breeze from the wrong way will take it down. Could be more stable, but at the cost of weight, size, and portability.Excellent buy.

Flimsy, Cheaply Made Junk
I've always had great results using Birchwood Casey gun care chemicals so I purchased this target stand with some confidence; that confidence was not rewarded. The crossbar welds were improperly made such that the stand wobbled about its low point, the 2x4 pocket. I fixed that problem by adding a couple of 1x4's to raise the stand (photo). Second, the 2x4 is so loose in the pocket that I had to jam a couple of thin metal angles into it to secure the wood (photo). Second problem fixed. Third, the bolt which is supposed to tighten the 2x4 in its holder works against thin sheet metal which is not a continuous tube, so that as the bolt is tightened the gap in the pocket simply widens. After the repairs made to the stand, it works fine. One thing for sure, the next stand I buy will not be this one!

Great stand. Great price.
I honestly can't make a stand for steel targets at this price point. I can probably crank out a wood stand that would compete with this Birchwood Casey but I certainly couldn't make one that easily collapses to half the size for transport. This little fella supported a 60% 3/4" IPSC target on flat ground against .223 rounds without an issue. The package comes with 2 stout metal spikes as well. I'd recommend adding 2 more big stakes and I'd definitely add some additional support in the form of sandbags on anything other than perfectly flat ground, though.

Stable Target Base
Base is durable and very easy to assemble. My first shipment came with only two tie down stakes although it appears there should have been four. Amazon corrected the problem immediately by shipping a complete new system. Unfortunately that was also short two but now I did have four stakes. Perhaps two are sufficient if you place one on the right front and the other on left back of the base. Looking at it now, it may be much easier to just buy a couple of sand tubes at your local hardware store and lay them over the base. That way if you have hard packed soil or the ground is frozen in the winter time, they should hold the base rock steady.

Does the job.
Works great for my 20" torso 3/8 steel target. Comes with steel ground holding spikes which are just right when shooting 9mm and 45's. Don't need them for 22lr. Easy to dissemble and throw in the car along with 5 ft 2 x 4 and torso target. Part of my portable steel 5 shot range. (2 six inch round / 2 three inch round steels hanging from Lowe's Garden shepherd hooks - the torso target is the get out #5 shot but you must hit the red painted head portion) Start at 15 feet and back to 20 and then to 25. You can score it on time and hits or just on hits for each round of 5 shots.

Not very steady with a 12x20 IPSC plate
I was looking for a base that would be easier to fit in my car than my current X-shaped base. I have an AR500 steel IPSC torso target (12"x20") mounted on a 4' 2x4. The 2x4 pocket was much larger than a standard 2x4, and even with tightening the bolt it still wobbled from side to side. I set it up on level ground and after the second hit with a 9mm pistol, it fell over. I set it back up and it did the same thing after a few more shots.I ended up putting a sandbag over the feet, which kept it from falling over but it would still wobble from side to side. I suppose it could be shimmed to stop the wobble, but it's annoying that I should have to do that. In my opinion, they should make the "feet" a bit longer and add another bolt or two to the base to better secure the post.Overall, though, it is compact and takes up much less space in the back of my vehicle than my other base.
