BrightWater Bio Media Ceramic Sphere, 99% Dust Free, Aquarium Filter Plus Ion Exchange (500g / 17.6oz)

I was ordering a few items for my daughter's aquarium and came across this one. Although I really didn't know what it was, it did say that it helped with ammonia levels and for that reason, I decided to give it a try. The Amazon page doesn't describe how to use these. Do you put one in your tank, do you put them all in your tank? Are they good for a month, or are they good forever? I assumed that instructions would come with the package. Unfortunately, I was wrong. We have a 20 gallon aquarium and my daughter decided to just throw them all in. We don't know if this was the right thing to do or the wrong thing, but it's been a few weeks and the fish are all still alive, so it can't be all bad. Do they work? I don't know. Would I buy them again? Probably not. Not because they are bad, but because I just don't understand them.

We will see how much difference this will add to my previously established Saltwater Reef Aquarium! I will update my review every few months. I placed this Biological Media inside the top of my AIO Built in Sump. I recommend to always place Loose Biological Aquarium Media inside of a Reusable Netted Bag so you can rinse the Biological Media Bi-Monthly and Rinse away any detritus (Wasted Food - Dead Fish - Fish Poop.) If you Establish this Biological Media with Live Bacteria by first by 1. Soaking the Biological Media in a Bowl of Liquid for 24 hours before adding to your aquarium. 2. Add and Refresh your Aquariums Live Bacteria every week by adding the set amount on the bottle (Do Not Over Use or Using two Different kinds of Bacteria at the same time as you can end up Killing all your Livestock)(Also when measuring the amount of Live Bacteria make sure to subtract out the space of your Live Rock, [Example a 55 gallon tank filled with Live Rock in a Saltwater Aquarium you probally need to measure the Live Bacteria against about only 40 gallons of water, add back into your gallons the approximate gallons of water from your sump, so a 35 gallon sump typically will only be about 10 gallons of water, so you'll be measuring in this example 45 gallons of water)] and 3. Do Bi-Monthly Maintenance by Easily Removing your Biological Media you Placed inside a Netted Bag So you can Rinse Away all the Detritus so your Media Remains Healthy and able to do its job more effectively. The Media is very dusty in packaging, So I recommending rinsing the Biological Media before Soaking in Your Fresh Live Bacteria Bath then adding to your sump or chosen filtering system.☆I sure hope people new to the Hobby will read this and Save themselves some Money by NOT OVERDOSING YOUR Aquarium with LIVE BACTERIA and also Doing a Bi-Monthly Rinse Maintenance you should have an extra Clean and Healthy Reef Aquarium!

I've tried all sorts of biospheres and other porous type media for my many saltwater and freshwater tanks and have found them all to fall apart in a short time, this one does not! That alone is a huge plus. They came qucikly and were packaged well and there was a good amount of them, say a two cup measuring cup full give or take a few? I can't attest to the long term beneifts or if they too will disinegrate but I am impressed thus far. I honestly have picked up another box after my initital order and will be putting them to use shortly in another tank. If you are looking for this type of media specifically I think you'll like it.*** 5 months later ***I have 3 boxes of these total in my one 80g reef tank, in media bags and in the back section of my tank ( it's an all in one tank, no sump) and I have been checking nitrates and they never go above 10. While not a great number to have in a reef, I have been kinda slacking on the water changes and I feed HEAVY, like obscenely heavy and the numbers have not once gone over 10. Is it this media? I think it might be! it has not broken down at all, I just did a maintenance on the tank yesterday and rinsed the bags and not a tiny bit of grossness or anything. I am waiting til these go on sale again and snatching up a few more boxes for my 180g!

Decided today to recharge my Ehiem canister filter. I tend to let my canister filter go as I use an under-gravel filter also. Task is usually a stinky slimy mess to empty, and re-install various medias quickly in hopes to not lose the temp sensitive live biology of the medias I attempt to reuse. So it's usually a mess.Once ready with the needed materials close by. I popped the top off my canister today and Wow, got a blast of peculiarly almost fresh air, almost like a healthy smelling fragrance. I knew I had recharged with a layer of these media balls on my last recharge and was curious of how the product claims proved to be. I was almost shocked how little slime was in the canister, sponges only, and and other media appeared cleaner than usual. Well, I'm here today to order other box a ceramic miracle balls. This media is SUPER absorbent which is highly crucial for media. I did the water test and I dipped the media not even in the water and I felt it go through in a millisecond. This media is mind blowing! USE IT NOW. Not many ppl know this media bcuz its so hidden!

I kitted my fluval 406 with it this evening. It was a joy in that it allows great flow while at the same time this media is VERY porous, meaning large, healthy colonies. When I started the 406 the water exploded out, no prep pumping! I'm going to kit my new fx6 with it in two weeks and enjoy the same benifits on a much larger, more powerful platform.BTW, I have no idea what "sheerness" is.

I love the product. One of the best on the market but the media itself is heavy. Being so dense when you order a pound expect not very much media. Small 4" by 5" box (half full)

Helped keep my water clear in turtle tank. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!
