Learning through play.
This is a really good idea for a “toy”, it is fun to create things and to have a finished product that you can use and can relate that product to something that you would normally buy.The presentation is a little rough and ready and you need to keep in mind that this is a child’s set as obviously you were never going to be able to create something on a par with the luxary brands, the finished result is like you would get in a play make up set. A child over the age of 12/13 would probably not want to use them.Making the items was fun, we followed the instructions together and got the results we were supposed to .This is for ages 8 and over but I would recommend making the items together, or at least being near by to keep and eye on things as you will probably want to make sure any spillages are dealt with immediately and its more fun to make the items together too.As a science themed toy its ok, there’s nothing really explained in any detail, but you can see the reactions when the products are mixed so you still learn along the way. As a cosmetic set its ok, very much play make up/cosmetics but little ones seem to love them.Build quality is a bit rough and ready, the box didnt have anything inside it to hold and display the items, they were all just rolling about inside there, the plastic is a bit thin and a bit cheap feeling if im honest, but this isnt the point of the set, the point is learning how to make things and you can do that with what is in the box.

A fun girls day
When I opened the box and saw powders and potions I had a realisation that this isn't something you can plonk the children down with an let them loose whilst you watch TV. Whilst the ingredients are not likely to result in direct injury or harm, they looked like they could do some damage to the furnishings. So I had to put our daughter and a few friends on the kitchen table whilst I pottered around the kitchen. The kit comes with a tray, but most of the stuff was dotted around the table as they experimented. The cosmetics seemed to just be a case of adding a colour or scent, but some needed a bit more to make the item up. The instructions were easy to follow, well I assume they were, I wasn't asked for help. At the end of the play session there was some shampoo, soap / gel and some nail polish. Also plenty left over for another play date. They seemed to have fun playing with it and there were plenty of giggles and whispers going on. Whilst I wasn't directly involved, I enjoyed having them in the kitchen and supplied the cakes and drinks, so it was a little bit of bonding for me too.As for the cosmetics; not something I would personally try out. Our daughter was allowed to wash with the soap and shampoo she made up, but it was on the understanding she had a second wash with the ones I buy.No skin reactions or problems encountered with handling the ingredients. Not strictly a science toy, but the girls had fun with it which is what counts.

mixing and blending
Clementoni 61754 Science Museum-Big Beauty Lab is not a play item I would make a repeat purchase for the one main reason I was not too sure about the ingredients, though what cosmetics the girls used on their skin had no adverse reactions. The girls played with it for a while then simply lost interest, they prefer when I handed over my old makeup bag to allow them to do each other faces for selfies etc. This might suit girls who like chemistry or who like to make things. It was nicely made up in a tray but it did not last long.Clementoni 61754 Science Museum-Big Beauty Lab is not for this family of cosmetic loving girls.

Need to supervise as could get messy.
The outside box looks very impressive so I was disappointed at first on opening the box. Inside the contents look rather thrown together. There is no insert keeping them in order. However once I actually began with my granddaughter to try making the bubble bath and then a face mask she really enjoyed it.The instructions are printed with diagrams to make them very easy to follow.

Disappointing
That is a big box! It looks marvellous on the shelf, even better when wrapped up as a gift, but in reality this is a rather underwhelming edutainment science set. It hits the mark on a few levels, it not all doom and gloom.#The kit can extend beyond the box contents, with ideas for making cosmetic products using the containers etc supplied. Although many ingredients required are not included, they are easy to procure, although some are expensive (no more so than making slimes I might add). Instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. There's room for the end product to fail, no more so than baking a cake, yet there is still fun in the creation. Hidden in there is learning too, with a subtle insertion of science in the midst of instructions. Sneaky!However... All the ingredients can be used up in just a few sessions. For the size of the box, there's remarkably little in it. It could easily be half the size. Lots of creations do require you to source ingredients yourself, a little disappointing as a gift where you may not have what you need. As a note, the floral fragrance smells just like Parma Violets. There's a risk of mess with this kit, the red dye is super bright - that's a warning enough, so ensure this is used in a safe environment, with appropriate clothes. The plastic holder for the cosmetic lab is very cheap, reinforcing the feeling that this isn't a quality product. For my children, they were excited by the marketing, but rather disappointed in how it turned out. One for the enthusiasts.

A great product
A great big beast of a box that contains everything you need to have a go at making a range of cosmetics: perfume, soap, shampoo, shower gel, nail polish, face masks and bath salts. Like the fact that the packaging shows both a boy and girl. So long as you supervise and even share the experience, you can have some fun learning about chemistry.
