Great story
This is a 5 book series, I have certainly gained an appreciation for the faith and the hard working lifestyle of the Amish.

Ah - Book 3 a Real Pleasure!
I was spellbound by this third book in the series "Abram's Daughters." I just recently reviewed The Betrayal (book 2) and although I gave it 4 stars here, my "review" was somewhat scathing. However, this book redeemed the series for me. I also don't dislike Leah nearly as much as I did in The Betrayal. Spoilers ahead: The two deaths that occurred in The Sacrifice were not too shocking to me. There was forshadowing galore about the young people and the buggy racing. And I just "had a hunch" about the other person that died. I was waiting for Lizzie to somehow "make her way toward" Abram and maybe the two become a couple, but I have to remember: there are two more books. The demise of the Smithy Gid/Leah engagement disappointed me more than it did the two of them, it seems! Wow, was she lukewarm about that, or what? I was rooting for them, though. He really seemed to replace her FAST. Makes me wonder just how much true love there was for her (Leah). I had heard here (reviews) that there wasn't anything re.Sadie in this Book 3, so I wasn't shocked. I didn't even expect as much as there was at the very end. The fact that the door remains open for Leah to find Jonas is not at all surprising and I would call it predictable (but in a nice way). I remain concerned though, about Leah just substituting her own life and future children to raise her two younger siblings . (yes I know, she is just a fictional character, but still!) I can just see her pouring out her entire soul and all her "good years" doing this, and in the end "have nothing" . After all , they are NOT HER children. I just feel like Abram expected too much of her, once again. Surely he could have let Gideon and Leah have the younger ones at their own, NEARBY, abode, and see them daily? I mean, Gideon and his eventual wife only moved as far away as Lizzie's cottage.! That , coupled with Abram's machinations of earlier to mess up things for Leah and Jonas, really made me somewhat angry w/him in this book. Again, I think Leah's "lack of" any real anger reaction is very atypical. Ms. Lewis either truly wished to portray Leah as a saint, or it is not very indepth writing as to how a REAL person would REALLY FEEL when finally realizing that largely due to their father, she missed her lifetime's chance with her one true love. I am definitely finishing the series, and am very happy that The Sacrifice left me feeling touched and intrigued, rather than so "ferhoodled" as I was after finishing The Betrayal.

A wonderful family story.
This has been a great series! I found the first one as a free book and have just purchased the the fifth and last in the series. There is such evolving character development in these books and unlike some this book has twists and turns that keep you guessing and anxious to read more. I have felt a connection with the characters and their questions of faith in their lives. I also feel I have been a silent observer in the lives of an Amish family. I have enjoyed the interactions with the nearby "English" world and as I have taught my children "you can be in the world but not of the world" this series shows how that can be done. I don't think I would go as far as turning off my electricity or giving up my car but the simple lives they lead sometimes seems attractive. I good read - quick but still a thoughtful story.

I bought books 1,2,4,5 in this series at a bargain store nearby. I carefully looked for book 3 which was missing, but decided to risk finding it on amazon. I read the first 2 books which were great and went to Amazon, which luckily had book 3. I was so happy when it arrived very quickly, because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. This series is hard to put down and gives a good insight into Amish life.

How wonderful!
I enjoy reading about the Amish because I learn so much about dedication, sacrifice, and family values as well as good food. This book is part of a series that defines all of those so distinctly. In a day when our young people are so desperately searching for anchors and mentors, I found this series to be so meaningful. I only wish that there were a way to present such works to them and allow them to see the nuances in life that are so real today. I encourage the reading of this work for it warms the soul and is an incredible piece of plot formation and character building. Beverly Lewis is fantastic.

Abrams Daughters
I loved this series of books about the Amish life. Beverly Lewis is such an amazing writer, I felt as if I were right there in the Amish Community. Leah's life was not an easy one but through her faith in God and her family she was able to over come many obstacles. This series was so good I did not stop reading the books until I Finished the very last one. So very sad to read the last one, would love to know more about the next generations of Ebersols.

3rd book in a 5 book series
I read this on the KindleI am really enjoying this series, this being a 3rd in a 5 book seriesI am really liking Leah & you feel sorry for her as she always putting everyone else before herselfI can't say too much as it will give the story away for this book, i am guessing about Carl Nolt in the story i think i know who his parents are so will be interested to know if i am right he adopted so that why i am guessingWhere Abram was one you didn't like it turning around now i do have to also remember this is set from the late 40s onwards & not today & i always said that we can say this or that but that is with what we know today would we feel the same if we had the upbringing in earlier timesSo in short things are moving along to what you hope will be a happy ending by the 5th book this is certainly a good series & can recommend it

Informative, Wholesome and a relaxing read
I have enjoyed this whole series, there isn't one of the books that stands out as the best as they have all been a really good read. I am just a random english woman who wanted something a bit different read and I have always been interested in the Amish culture. This series has given me exactly what i wanted and so much more. I love curling up in bed and reading them.

Another gem
I have enjoyed all the books in the series so far and this one was no exception. It's a real testament to the fact that our words and actions can have a huge impact on other people and work for the positive as well as the negative in their lives.

Typical of Beverly Lewis, the book has many twists and turns which keep you guessing. Now, enjoying the story of Abram's family, I need to get the next book to see how the generations progress. A very good read.
