Broyhill Kids Destin Junior Loft Bed Collection with Slide, White

I purchased this item from Amazon last week considering that I was in the market for a loft bed with a slide for my son. Received it yesterday and started to assemble the unit. There were 7 total boxes (1 huge long box for the frame) and 6 smaller boxes. Open the boxes and expect a strong whiff of formaldehyde. I noticed the unit was manufactured in June of 2014 and that most manufacturers use formaldehyde as a form of preservative, but this was strong and was giving me headaches after about 30 minutes. There was a label affixed to the frame as well. (Meets CA Level II for formaldehyde...) Be sure to have your room well ventilated.I consider myself pretty skilled with my hands. I have assembled countless numbers of Ikea furniture since my college days. Now, mind you, I am not Bob Villa or a pro, but the instructions on this needs significant improvements. The parts are labeled and each part of the set comes in it's own box, but many times I hex-keyed a wooden part in the wrong orientation - forcing me to undo and redo. If the instructions were more clear and provided more close up diagrams, it would have helped. The whole process took my wife and I about 4-5 hours. My 3 year old son was ecstatic to see that we were building this and was happy to help throughout until he fell asleep about an hour and a half in.It may be because the packages shipped from Washington State to New Jersey or the process of this item shipping from Malaysia to the US. There were lots of cracks (mostly hairline) that didn't hinder the usage, but appearance wise made a huge difference. Thankfully, I was able to take white out and paint over the small ones. In addition, lots of cracks and dents were in areas not visible (back, inside etc).Everything was assembled until I got to the cabinet unit with the drawer. Wooden Part missing! ARRGHHH... Then I went to screw the knob and it wouldn't stay on! another ARGHHH. I gave up there and contacted the company to order missing parts. Called the toll free number and busy signal. Called again before lunch today, no luck: busy signal again. I tried their parts order form. They wanted all sorts of information, part number, serial number, manufacture date and what not. The form does not get submitted. Try again, does not work. I contacted Amazon and they wanted to send a replacement and have me ship the original unit back.There was no way I am UN-assembling this thing and shipping it back. So, they offered a small discount and so I will go to Home Depot and pick up a piece of wood and a knob and some extra white paint while I am at it to cover the blemishes.When fully assembled, it is a decent set for the money. Most of the pieces seem to be solid wood except the shelves and the mattress supports (supports are ply wood and cabinets are particle board) Max weight support is 200lbs. I weight 185lbs and it does not look like I will be supported on that thing. I don't expect it to last a long time, but for now and the smile it puts on my son's face, it is priceless. The agony I went through is nothing compared to that. Would I buy products from this company again? Probably not. Bought for my 6 year old and he loves it as do I. Easy to assemble, I did it all myself. They only issue I ran into was with the very last box I opened to build. It was one of the shelving cubes. I had it almost all built and found that the back piece was cracked and the side piece had a large gouge in it. Not able to return it at this point as its all built but not happy that this happened.

We bought this for our son's 5th birthday. He and his 3 year old sister LOVE it! It provides extra storage as well as extra room to play under the bed. Of course, the kids love using the slide. They also race cars down it. The desk is working out perfect for learning to write as well as a place for daddy to sit during bedtime stories. I only see two minor drawbacks at this point; the packaging left out the assembly instructions which meant several calls to the manufacturer and the wooden piece at the bottom of the slide is a bit rough on the kids' backs when they get to the bottom. We are working on a solution for that though. Overall, we love it and would absolutely buy it again.

We ordered these for our two youngest, ages 5 and 3, and the absolutely love them. We did not include the desk for our 3 year old as he doesn't need it and prefers the extra space to play in his room The loft is great because the kiddos pretend they're camping and we store all their toys underneath when not in use. Beds and shelves were also easy to assemble, lost star is due to shipping.

It served its purpose. Pretty easy to install. Made it a family affair with the kids. My son loves it. The screws just keep getting lose in the rails.

This bed is amazing! I would buy again in a heart beat and will be recommending to all my friends and family. The quality is top notch and is made from REAL wood not the crappy pressed material which falls apart. My kids 3 & 5 love them.

Horrible bed. It didn't come with all the hardware needed and when we did finally get it built the thing started falling apart after only a few months. Absolute waste of money. We got the same kind of bed for a lower price from a different manufacturer.

This has been a great investment so far. I hope it will stand the test of time and my son gets bigger. The furniture is beautiful and was easy to put together.
