Praxis II: Mathematics (0065 and 5161) First Edition

The reviews are correct: there are many errors. You have to be very careful when assessing the text and calculating your answers. If you are just looking for a review of concepts and some practice work - this will help. But you really have to watch it to make sure the calculations are correct. I can't believe how many errors I have come across while studying.

Awesome! I used this book to hel p study for my praxis 2 Math in Virginia. This was my second time taking the test and I passed this book helped with some review I had forgottending after being out of college for 4 years! Has some mistakes(the reason for only 4 stars) but if you're good at math, like factoring, then you'll catch the mistakes and it won't really affect you. I also recommend a ti-89 calculator when taking the test! I ordered another book with this one just to be on the safe side but didn't even use the other book this one was plenty helpful!

Let me first state that I passed the Mathematics Content Knowledge Test (5161) with a score of 175 when I only needed a 160, so I'm not writing a negative review because I'm bitter. I'm writing a negative review because this book is of very poor quality.When I was taking and scoring my practice tests I noticed that the authors made mistakes both in the writing of the questions and in the answer descriptions. In one question, they didn't even include the function. I figured I just had no idea how to do the problem until I flipped to the answer descriptions and saw they were using a function for polynomial long division that wasn't provided in the question. There was another answer explanation in the book that was using different numbers than were presented in the question. The list, unfortunately goes on, both for the practice tests in the book and the one online.While I'm on the topic of the online test, I need to say that the online test component was extremely difficult to access and the website was a complete piece of junk. I needed to email customer service three times (they only bothered to respond to one of my emails) before I could actually access the test. And again, there were a lot of errors.The one positive I have for this book is that the questions, when there aren't errors, are reasonably good practice for the actual test. These questions are tougher than some of the other review materials I've used, including the ones I bought directly from ETS, so if you can do well on these you'll likely do well on the real test. However, I cannot recommend this book overall and I will not be purchasing any other review materials from this company.

Writers need to print a new edition with less errors but overall good layout and practice questions. I'm yet to sit the test so I can't say how the prep compares to the actual.

I thought that I was simply missing questions because I was rusty or unsure, but some of the math they use to justify answers is completely wrong. In addition to other reviewers, I found specifically a problem that calculates probability incorrectly. Another problem's answer description solely uses a TI calculator, which isn't provided on the test, so the solution walkthrough is useless. I think the quality of the questions are close to the real exam, but the accuracy and actually mathematics in the book is just poor quality for the price. I would recommend using many other resources besides this one.

5 tests - 3 Pedagogy (0065) and 2 Content Knowledge 5161. New release - many typo's on the graphs of parent functions and a few scattered throughout including correct answer description but incorrect letter choice.

I am a aspiring math teacher and I have already found two mistakes in this book and I've only done the first practice test in it. #8 and #23 have obvious errors. It is disappointing because now I feel like the actual praxis could have mistakes and count it against me even if I do get it correct.

Ordered these for my wife. She found them very helpful and bang on target for the exam prep.5 stars!
