TERRIBLE TITLE
This book is less about building a klunker and more about break down and re assembly of most any bicycle. It does have some useful information on geometry. disappointed.

Recently got back into building bikes after decades of not.... By the time I was 9 I already had a decently full toolbox and was building bikes - My first was a 20" Schwinn Typhoon which I eventually slapped a banana seat and ape hangers on - Then I got into BMX and built up a Mongoose from a frame - then I got into MTN biking in the '80's and into the '90's - I'm hooked on the Klunker thing now and having fun with it - This book is informative but not much I didn't already know - It's B&W images - I was hoping for the information but also more images of different Klunkers inlcuding lists of old frames - This book is very specific - something broader with more images (in color) is needed - Something more like a coffee table book..... Still happy I purchased it mostly because I feel like I'm helping to support the community :)

"Klunker" building and vintage bike restoration
This book not only contains instructions for building a "klunker" but also some useful information for restorers of vintage bikes, and a lot of step-by-step photographs. Particularly interesting is the section about the Bottom Bracket. If this is your first book about this field I cannot less than recommend it. The Kindle version is nice and readable, but the fact that the illustrations are "sub-divided" and only can be enlarged in parts is rather inconvenient. For people who already have a technical library for bicycle repair and conversion some of the info in this book might be redundant.

Very narrow focus.
This is maybe useful is you're turning a 1982 Schwinn Sidewinder mountain bike into a one-speed BMX bike, but doesn't address the general issues of modifying other old Schwinns and middleweight bikes to be something more than they were 50 or 60 years ago. This won't teach you how to build up a bike like the original klunkers from Marin County or anything that might be useful in a general off-road situation.Furthermore, the author doesn't investigate or explain the options for, say, the bottom bracket axle and crankset. He just shows you with a lot of useless and redundant photos how to install what he did, which might not be the best solution out there.Save your money. Go online and search out bike forums where there are useful discussions of the subject. They're free and much more helpful in making decisions and getting the bike you want.

Good info but.......
Good information but the formatting (AT least on my iPad using the kindle app) sucked. I would say that at least 75% of the pictures were split into the next page. Makes it difficult to view the pictures.
