Its an umbrella
Bought this as a gift for my wife. I personally do not use umbrellas, but my wife does all the time. She usually buys 10 dollar umbrellas and I thought she could use a fancy one. I put this one side by side with her cheap one.-The handle on the Davek was nicer, felt like a gear shifter on a car.-The Davek did extend with a bit more umph than the cheap one-The Davek Retracted, the cheap one did not-Looks like there was a bit more support under the canopyNot sure that these features make it worth 10 times the cost. Sure if you loose it, you can buy a new one for half the price with a card they give you. But that's still 5x the cost of a cheapy. Yes its guaranteed for life, so if you average a new umbrella every year, it will pay for itself in 6-10 years. But after thinking about it, my wife buys a new color umbrella every time. Guess now if this last, she is stuck with the same color for forever, lol.In the end, I give it 4 stars. I wanted a fancier/higher quality umbrella to give to my wife than what she buys, and that's what I got. I don't think its worth the price tag though. Maybe $60 but not a $100 (plus fast shipping I spent $123 total)It should be noted that if you buy your umbrella direct from the Davek website, there is no need to register you umbrella. However since you are buying from amazon, you must register it. Otherwise when it breaks, you will be out of luck.

Superior quality - worth every penny
This is hands-down the highest quality accessory I own. Every detail from the grip shaped handle to the material of the umbrella itself is made with a level of quality that is truly superior to any other umbrella I have ever used. The auto close feature is so useful to have when my hands are full. I have used this umbrella through some serious rainstorms in the short time that I’ve had it. So far, I haven’t had any issues with it turning inside out as other reviewers have mentioned. I’ll be sure to update my review if that changes, but with the lifetime warranty I have a feeling that this umbrella will withstand any storm I need it to.

Solid Construction - Fixes Itself
Spring time weather is unpredictable. I needed an umbrella I could use that would stand up to rain, sleet, snow and winds that can carry away Dorothy and Toto. Being able to maneuver an umbrella one handed is important to me, as I am always carrying some sort of bag or box or luggage. The umbrella was more expensive than I initially wanted to pay, but with all the amenities and the warranty, I decided to give it a shot. Super glad I did.I’ll be honest – it is a little heavier than I expected, but I chalk that up to good construction. The one touch open and close gave me the one handed control I was hoping for. I want to be clear here, though. It collapses with one button. You still have to fold it all up after you shake off all the water. But all of the materials just seem better. Stitching is strong. The material is tight. The shaft is amazing and the handle, with the leather piece I can wrap around my wrist all re-enforce my good buying decision. Here’s the kicker… The trouble I’ve had with most of my umbrellas is the wind catches it and folds it backwards and it breaks. I was walking in downtown Denver – between a couple of buildings, where the wind was howling. This umbrella bent backwards. I was bummed. I pushed the button, expecting nothing to happen. But alas, the umbrella reverted itself into the correct alignment and when I pushed the button again, expanded normally. AMAZED.I’ve used it a few more times since then with nothing less than perfection.

Quality over quantity
I made the upgrade from a series of broken low cost umbrellas to the classic black Davek solo and it’s worth it. I got to test it out in the spring rains that hit the bay area the past couple weeks and was really impressed! The Davek solo is a serious umbrella for wind and rain. I’m already looking forward to bringing it on East coast work trips. Everything from the packaging to the construction is top notch. As soon as you open it you can feel the quality. It’s a well-designed and sturdy umbrella. A smooth automatic open close button makes it easy to use one handed, probably my favorite feature. The lifetime warranty is another benefit. If you’ve had enough of cheap umbrellas breaking, try a Davek ... you won’t be disappointed

Rated Best Overall on Digital Trends
This was rated the best overall option in a Digital Trends list. It's a little more expensive, but it seems to be worth it. It feels solid & sturdy, and it's endured some decent gusts. It's heavier than most compact umbrellas, but that goes with the sturdiness. I find the handle a bit small for comfort in my large man hands, but it's a compact umbrella, and the handle is no smaller than any other compact I've had. My chief complaint would be with the wrist strap, which my aforementioned large man hands don't fit through; since the ribs don't flip in strong winds, the umbrella generates a lot of lift, and if you lose your grip, the umbrella will do a pretty good Mary Poppins. If you have medium to small man hand equivalents, the strap should be fine (even with gloves).

So far, everythung it was advwrtised to be
I don't go through umbrellas like I do shoes. The last one I had was a London Fog that lasted me 25 years. I replaced it with another London Fog that lasted me 4. This time I decided to go full out and buy one at a much steeper price but had a lifetime warranty. Since it rained all day here in Atlanta yesterday it was put trough its paces and I'm happy to report the Davek Solo seems to have handled everything thrown at it well.. Yes I'd get another but only if this one were stolen. Remember, it comes with a lifetime warranty and to me that too has value.

Great umbrella if you don't mind its weight.
Haven't had to use it too much yet but when I have, it has performed perfectly. It's the sturdiest and most stylish umbrella I've ever owned. And as silly as it may sound, you can register it for a discounted replacement if you lose it. Its weight is the downside. It makes my briefcase noticeably heavier.
