It's just fun to read the books he wrote.

Bought this book to take on a trip and it did not disappoint. I have 2 of his other books and the kids treasury. Herriot’s writing style pulls the reader into the setting and makes you feel like part of the story. I am always sad when I come to the end. Lovely, heart warming stories!

So refreshing to read such a beautiful and clean book! I wish I could erase it all from memory and have the joy of reading it for the first time all over again.

James Herriot (pen name) was truly gifted at telling the stories of his vet practice in the country side of England in the 30's and 40's. Truly delightful reading. His life was hard, but he loved it. He does a wonderful job of describing the colorful characters that he served (both the animals and their owners!).

The TV series is great so I thought I would read the series. It’s great too but a little different than the TV series.

British home spun humour. Purchase based for my 12 year old granddaughter. I've read 5 of James Herriot's books and loved them all. When they make a tv series about this story line, you know that they think it's worthwhile. The world could use more nice stories and fewer bang bang shoot 'em up, blow 'em up, everybody dies stories. James Herriot shares his love for people and animals in his endearing fables about countryside living in Great Britain. You may even learn a few things about veterinary science.

Pleasant reading

There was only one story that saddened me. About the farmer who went bust. The story is about my parents' generation. I only hope the man found peace. Otherwise everything was sweet and tender and funny. Had me in ripples throughout

Beautifully written! This is my 2nd set, because I wore out the 1st.

Das Buch beinhaltet einzelne Geschichten aus dem Leben des Doktors. Humorigeund warmherzigen Darstellungen menschlicher Charaktäre, wie man sie von im kennt. Interessant fand ich aber auch, mal zu erfahren was Tiere für Krankheiten haben können und mit welchen Methoden die damals noch behandelt wurden, grauslich.

When I was about ten I got the first of the James Herriot collections - All Creatures Great and Small. It was signed and I treasured it until it was loaned out by my mum and never returned - something I always feel strongly about.I must have read that book twenty times and of course naturally moved onto the rest of James Herriot's books of which this is next in line.As in the first, it's a wonderful evocative collection that evokes a time when life was considerably simpler and maybe a little better. Whilst the march of modern technology in many areas such as medicine and electronics has made a huge and generally beneficial impact, there is no doubt that the humanity displayed in this book has all but gone. Perhaps that's the essence of the magic that is sprinkled through this and other of the Herriot books. There is a wonderful sense of belonging and friendship in them.Anyway, a wonderful book and one I've read many times. I'm quite sure that I will read it again a few more times as well.
