These were a lot cheaper than Neocubes or Buckyballs. As it turns out, that's probably because not only do they not come with any carrying bag or box, but they are considerably weaker magnets. The easy way to tell is that with the stronger magnets you can hold just one, pull away from the main mass of magnets, and draw them all off into a long string or necklace of balls. But these magnets are weaker, so you can only pull a few into a string before it breaks off due to the weak magnetic force. These are okay for the price, but don't expect them to be as strong as the other more expensive magnetic balls.

I was hoping to augment my collection of Buckyballs 5mm spheres with these, but I'm not going to mix them together. I was happy to see that they measure within a couple hundredths of a mm of 5mm, but the magnetic fields on these are a lot weaker than the fields on the Buckyballs. The Buckyballs seem to line up easier into complex shapes, too. Maybe because of the strength of the magnets? Pulling strands out of a mass of these balls isn't nearly as satisfying either. Since these are half the price, they still get 4 stars.UPDATE: I was wondering if the lower strength of these magnets was just the industry standard after all of the regulatory hubub surrounding people eating these things and requiring surgery, so I ordered two more sets of Buckyballs. They are WAY stronger than these things, WAY more satisfying to build and fidget with, and only a little more expensive (the packaging makes it worth it too). So three stars.

These magnet beads are alot of fun! I got them for my daughter (13yo) but I enjoy playing with them too! I thought they looked bigger in the ad picture but they are small & easy to play with. We can't seem to make a square out of it but have alot of fun trying. As you can see they are super strong so they stay together well & so they aren't messy.

3mm is nothing, look for the 5mm versions, as this particular product is not very strong (HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT) and too small to do anything with other than look at or discard. I found the 5mm version to be severl hundred times more powerful.

My son loves these and I gotta say I get great joy out of them as well. Small about the size of small pea. Creativeness that comes from playing with them.
