This book is one of the best I've read yet.
You can't say anything bad about this book. This book was a lot better than I expected it to be. It went into a lot further detail than I thought it would. I never knew that Roger Federer had trouble with his anger when he was a kid. He definitely proves that if you set your mind to something, you can achieve anything you want. He said he wanted to become number one in the world; he devoted most of his life to becoming number one. Roger started out like the rest of the tennis players out there, but just worked a lot harder than most of them have ever worked, both in the junior category and the ATP category. I would definitely recommend this book to any tennis player wanting to improve his/her game and attitude toward the game. This book also shows how you can set your sights to anything you want, and you can achieve it. Every tennis player should definitely ready this book, I'd put it at the top of my list of all time favorites.

Great Book About a Tennis Legend
I am an avid tennis player and have found that reading biographies about the greatest tennis players is actually helpful to my own game. You see what they did and what they focused on. Roger Federer is the most amazing player to watch - especially in the grand slams. His demeanor, tennis style and sportsmanship is all the result of years of work and persistence. This book did a great job showing the boy and man behind Federer and his evolution over his life to become a great tennis player. The writing is easy to follow and you find yourself not wanting to put it down. I loved the book!

Beyond the forehand
The Roger Federer Story: Quest for Perfection is the real thing. Written by a real journalist about a real achiever. The author, Rene Stauffer, is a recognized figure in sports writing in Europe, and he is not at all embarassed to be smitten with Roger, as we all have been. But the biography is not gushy and it's not celebrity worship. Stauffer has done his own legwork and reveals the person behind the statistics and the worldwide recognition. Readers will not be surprised to learn that solid rearing by sensible parents and hard work on the court are the dominant factors in Federer's life. And of course now he must be a businessman, and we learn about that, too. This is a superior sports biography, at its core, good writing about a good person. You will read straight through and be glad you did.

Story of a genius
This is the only book about Federer that I have been able to find. It contains some excellent analyses of his style that capture the essence of his greatness, as well as insights into his character. I enjoyed it so much that it a shame to make negative comments but they should be said. Originally written in German, the translation into English is at times awkward. Secondly, including the stats of all his matches within the text can become boring. I would have preferred tables at the end. But these are minor compared to the positives.

Clear cut content
Seldom read a biography laid out by a very clear cut content. As a reader, I spare no time to go through the book I may spend time on chapters which interest me.Chapters provide an indicative topic. It is easy to locate the information that I want to know.Well organized in chronological order to follow life of Federer in different ages.Thoughtful author and publisher.

Quest for Boredom
If it were possible for someone to take one of the most exciting lives on the planet and turn it into a boring study of meaningless stats and tidbits, this author has achieved it. Also, what kind of author puts photos of himself with the subject of his book and the parents in the book itself? Strange. I love Roger Federer more than life but could not seem to relate to anything this writer had to say about him. Go back to the drawing board. Roger if you are reading this I love you. Did I spell bored correctly?

Lacks depth
Even though RenΓ© Stauffer's bio on Roger Federer has a somewhat poetic name ("Quest For Perfection") it actually feels more like an oversized news article. There is nothing new in this book. The book rather seems like an aggregator of already accessible information about the tennis champion. The book is mostly made up of tournament scores and quotes from press conferences and interviews. The lack of depth makes Federer feel uninteresting. We learn nothing of his motives or emotions. The author doesn't even try to figure him out. If there is one thing I learned from reading this book, it is that Federer possesses immense control over his image. The book not only implies so, but is also a tangible proof of the matter since it merely scratches the surface of said image. With that said, if you want an easy read and a rather solid overview of Federer's professional career and don't give a damn about his private life, this book is OK.

A superb biography of the great Roger Federer up to the end of 2007
This book was written by a Swiss journalist who had privileged access to Federer and his family. It gives us Federer's background, his early successes and so on. Federer and his family are all very private people so there are no fly on the wall revelations. It's enthralling to read of how he became "the Greatest of all Time" as many call him. Other players can beat him now and again but none in my view has his flair and charm and absolute beauty of play and deadly accuracy. The earlier great player Ilie Nastase specifically picks out Federer from all of the current generation of players (2000's) as his favourite and wishes Federer's kind of play would prevail over the more common walloping baseline two handed backhand play that is unfortunately encouraged by technology and increasingly uniform synthetic courts so that the variety even of Federer's earlier years is fast disappearing as ranking points and prize money become it seems far more important than how the game looks and whether or not the punters enjoy watching it.This book ends with Federer's most triumphant years when he was winning 3 Grand Slams a year, failing only at the French Open to Rafael Nadal. Early 2008, Federer suffered a bout of the tennis player's nightmare which hangs around for long periods, mononucleosis, which damaged his 2008, and in early 2010 pneumonia which with injury damaged his 2010. Life can be very unfair and was just that to this great player at his very peak at end 2007 and we'd have expected his tally of Grand Slams to be even more than it is (so far).None of those shadows hang over this very entertaining book. Highly recommended! I wonder if there will be a sequel, giving us Federer's more difficult later years battling illness and injury but still winning Grand Slams and playing at the very highest level. I expect we will have to wait for this sequel until after he finally retires and I won't be surprised if he plays on into his late 30s simply because he loves the game.

The greatest Player?
Anyone who plays tennis has heard, seen and most probably admires Roger Feder. So much has been written about him, this book will take you back to his childhood and through to becoming the male player with the greatest number of Grand Slam victories. Roger makes playing look simple, read this book to find out how hard he trains to seek perfection. How he sometimes loses and copes with disappointment. The author has a close association with his subject and his family giving the reader an in depth insight into how it is at the highest level. If you are a fan of Roger Federer this is a must read, enjoy.

A great read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.As an ardent fan of Roger Federer from his first appearance at Wimbledon - I found it very interesting reading about his early days on the circuit and how he struggled to win major tournaments. I was also surprised to read that he could be very temperamental on the court too.Highly recommended.

This was bought as a present for my partner who loves tennis & Federer. He enjoyed the book, reading it from cover to cover in a matter of days. Nothing revelatory in there but a nice insight into the brilliant man.
