A rigorous study of Carter Scratch guitar
You get a lot of music in this book, mostly in the "Carter Scratch" style - melody played with the thumb on the bass strings, accompanied by brushes with the fingers on the treble strings - but also a couple of tunes in country blues slide and fingerpicking.Mother Maybelle was a profoundly influential guitarist, but her style is suitable for beginners who have only learned a handful of chords. If you're a more advanced guitarist you should be able to work out most of her stuff by ear, even if you have very little experience transcribing. But it's a lovingly made book, with historical notes for each tune, and worth studying if you want to take a deep dive into Carter style guitar and pre-war folk music. Sokolow has published prolifically in all kinds of guitar styles of the 1920s-1950s, and his experience shows.

Excellent resource
Great book, with lyrics, solo and accompanying guitar. Although melodies are simple, it's often hard to play along by ear alone with them because guitar often tuned down and this has all the correct tunings, which is great. I'm very happy with. Nice biographical info aswell.
