M.C. Escher: His Life and Complete Graphic Work (With a Fully Illustrated Catalogue)

This is the best Escher book. If you are a fan of M.C. Escher, just get it.

A great story of Escher's life and his use of mathematics to create his mind blowing works of art. well presented and a great addition to my library.

Book was in advertised condition. It was previously owned by a public library and the tag on the inside listed it's value there being more than twice what I paid for it. Good experience over all, may keep an eye out for this seller in the future.

I was wary of buying a used book but now I am a believer. If I had bought it new it would not have been in better shape than this. Very happy!

A very nice edition with lots of quality prints and interesting biographical information. A great index too, probably the most comprehensive index of all the books I own on Escher. Not as much on the technical aspects of his later drawings and the pictures are not as well-done as the "Magic of Escher" text but certainly a volume that any Escher lover will treasure.

The book is a approximately 12" x 9 3/4" which add to the enjoyment of the color plates, as well as the drawings. The writing is sequential on his personal history, influences, and the progression of his artistic evolution. It is a great addition to my art library. His mastery of drawing can easily be seen in these well sized plates. This book also included some photographs of the actual sites referenced in his artwork which adds to the depth of insight to the artist. I am not very good with words, especially in reviewing books...stuff is much easier to assess for me....that said - I REALLY ENJOY THIS BOOK.. From the vast amount of plates, the thoughtful writing, and the extras the author included for those interested, were more than I expected.

I just thought with it being a thicker book that there would be even more pictures than the other book I had, just more dialogue?

So far the best book I have seen about M.C. Escher. I ordered a used book, labeled as in “very good” condition, and I am happy with my purchase.

中古でもかなり価格が高かったのだが、レビューを見てエッシャーの版画作品が全部収録されているということで買った。図版は小さいものもあるが、英文でエッシャーの伝記もついているし、見たことのないモノクロ版画がたくさん掲載されている。ページも多くハードカバーで一生ものの本だった。大変満足。　なお、モノクロ版画は収録されているが、シンメトリードローイングと呼ばれるタイル状にパターンをしきつめた絵はこの本にも掲載されていないものがある。今から40年ほど前、1980年代半ば、西武百貨店がまだ勢いがあったころ行われた展覧会のカタログを保管してあり、これにかなりのタイル状の絵が載っている。表紙は黄ばんだが今でも眺めている。これだけの作品を残したエネルギーに驚かされる。　エッシャーの絵は知的好奇心を刺激して本当に楽しい。多分死ぬまでこの本は大事にすると思う。

This is a very interesting book on the life of the very original artist, MC Escher. He was profoundly original.Others have used his ideas on perspective and gone forward and beyond.A wonderful life, but his ideas are now wide spread.

The best thing I like about this book is that it includes all of M.C. Escher's known works. Most other M.C. Escher books only include his more popular works, leaving out others. This book also has some background about Escher and provides details on things like the dimensions of each work (useful information if you are trying to determine if a piece is authentic or not).

This book is really good, to my taste. It is extensive, not only descriptive but get some insight into maths of the drawings and also include some nice color drawings, apart of course of the whole collection of Escher complete work at the end of the book. The pictures are not large, in general, but to me enough. If you are interested only on big (full page) pictures this is not the book (only a few of them), for all the others, this is your book! I miss this kind of quality in nowadays "fast food" book production!!
