Godzilla #7 Comic – January 1, 1978

The 70's Marvel Godzilla comic was a weird and wacky run of bizarre fun. Not the least of which because Marvel went all in. Godzilla is not simply in a comic book. He is fully in the Marvel Comic Universe alongside the Avengers and Fantastic Four and X-Men. And at no point is it clearer than in this issue where as Godzilla battles SHIELD, they unleash their own Stark Industries built giant Japanese Robot to fight him. Red Ronin! Heck the issue and storyarc is also an homage to classic Japanese Robot stories, stealing liberally from such classics as Giant Robo (We know it as Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot) and Godzilla vs Megalon's Jet Jaguar story. (small boy gets somehow bonded to the Giant Good Guy Robot such that only he can operate it.)It's glorious fun and marks the first appearence of one of Marvel's cooler oddities. Red Ronin. The cover in particular is great.

Does not get much better than this! I lost my originals, so it felt so great to replace the ones I had as a kid.
