The Living Gulf Coast: A Nature Guide to Southwest Florida

The information is generous about species and state in general. I recommend the book for new comers or someone who wants to learn more about what can be found in the state.

This is not a book that can be classified as a field guide, although it does contain information that helps identify birds, animals and reptiles that can be found in SW Florida. This book will inspire the reader to get out there into the wonders of nature. The aspect of the book I like the most -- aside from the fabulous photography (and the fact that the photographers are celebrated) -- the comprehensive destination guide which forms the major section of the book. There are many more places to poke around than I could have imagined.

We are moving to the Florida gulf coast, and get excited reading about all the great parks and beaches to explore. This book is so comprehensive. A very good first guide book of the area. Would have given it 5 stars, but did not care for some of the enviriomentalist commentary.

Attractive layout and interesting content. Covers alot of territory so walking a line between breadth and depth. That said, the book provides some interesting and helpful content. The book highlighted several locations I would not have visited and provided useful suggestions that maximized the quality of our experience. I'm glad I purchased it and will use it to plan our next expedition.

This book was a big hit as a gift to my dad. Now maybe he will stop asking everyone to google every bird, lizard and bug.
