Enthusiastic Tracking: The Step-By-Step Training Handbook

Love this book! I purchased this book after saying for many years I was going to get into tracking, but never really had a good starting point. This book was the starting point! Because I worked mainly on my own and really didn't have a good frame of reference in which to start, this book was extremely helpful. It starts with a good section on how dogs follow scent. It goes into very detailed lesson plans through with the progression is systematic and logical. Length of lead, food drops, turns, age, you name it. Problem solving is also covered very well. Motivation and positive training methods are emphasized. Well-written and easy to follow. If you need details, this is the book for you. Proud to say we earned our TD after working through the program and I really give a lot of that credit to this book.

Really like the step by step with progressive exercises. It was just what I was looking for.

I teach SAR K9 classes and while we mostly concentrate on air scenting, I refer to this book and its tracking templates to create grids for my team to search on. The instructions are clear and easy and the variety of grids is amazing and I can always find something new to work on with the dogs. A little basic in actual commands and whatnot, but still a great resource for tracking.

This is for a specific type of training

This is a great tracking guide, highly recommended by my trainer for our first introduction into tracking. Eventually, we'd like to do some TD and TDX competitions and earn a few titles! The only challenge thus far has been finding large enough areas to practice the tracks Sanders recommends. We've had to go out to some big parks just to get the straight-line distance.

I'm a newbie to tracking and so can only judge this book as a beginner. It is helpful so far and I am trying to follow the suggestions as closely as possible, although I am putting food drops down more frequently than the author dictates.

This manual has all the information needed to start a dog tracking and a lot of tracking maps to follow when setting your own tracks. It is an information source and gets right to the point. Not a bad manual to have on hand. It was recommended to me by the person teaching the tracking class my dog and I are attending.
