the first disc worked all god without and interuptions.The second disc is another story. It kept scratching and wudnt go.Saddly the worst thing i bought on Amazon.

With great regret I must give this collection a poor review. While I obsessed over the first two classic Believe it or Not Collections in my youth, virtually memorizing them, Mr. Ripley's discoveries do not translate well to film. (Note: the collections issued after Ripley died either were inferior or I had lost the thrill of his material.) Ripley himself is an uninteresting talker, and uses that wooden delivery so familiar from 1930s newsreels. Importantly, there are few photographs or films of his oddities in these shorts; it's mostly Ripley talking or sketching. Attempts to place him in a setting, such as a courtroom where he is "on trial" for making false statements, are primitive and add nothing. If you're not familiar with Ripley, beg borrow or buy his first two book collections. The first one, at least, was reissued several years ago and is readily available here. Oh yeah, the visual, if not audio, quality of these shorts from the 1930s is excellent....Believe it or Not!

Believe it or not this is the entire series of short films. Plan and simple!

Fantasic load of interesting odd items from the 1930 delivered in a very wooden manner by Robert Riply but amzing. Something odd ball about it, old cars, old people doing daft things you name it it here, got to be seen to be belived, (sorry about my spelling.)Ive never seen anything quiet like it loved it. Really like this one and perfect for my collection with the creator himself! A fan of Ripley's can't just own books etc. without at least owning a copy of this!

世界中の信じられない不思議な事象を探し、取り上げることに生涯を捧げたカートゥーニスト(漫画家)、ロバート・L・リプリー(1890-1949)。彼が新聞で連載を始めた"Ripley’s Believe It or Not"(1919〜)シリーズを、人気のラジオ番組に次いで映画化したのが本作(1930〜1931)。リプリー自身がホストとして登場し、絵を描いてみせたり、世界で撮りためたフィルムを紹介するという体裁になっている。1エピソード約7〜8分(1巻)、全24エピソードを2枚に収録した素晴らしいDVD-Rセットだ。残念ながら、自身の世界遠征が忙しくなりすぎたのか、最後の2エピソードにリプリーは登場せず、映画シリーズ自体も終了してしまったが、その後も、現在に至るまで、TVシリーズなどで、彼の"Believe It or Not"は受け継がれている。また、2005年には、ティム・バートン監督、ジム・キャリー主演で、リプリーの冒険に溢れた生涯を映画化する企画があったことを記憶している映画ファンも多いはずだ。正直、眉唾ものやうさん臭いものがないわけではない。しかし、リプリーの決まり文句でもある"Believe It or Not"(「ウソかマコトか」)の通り、(真偽はともかくとして)不思議な事象に対する好奇心やセンス・オブ・ワンダーを刺激することだけは確かだ。怪しい見世物小屋的世界の楽しさとでも言ったらいいだろうか。1秒間に8文字を読む女性、額から2本の突起物が出ているアフリカ人、1分間で7インチ背を伸ばせる男性、75年間睡眠を取っていない男性…等々、不思議な人物やら事象のオン・パレード。日本からも、1円札の肖像である武内宿禰(280年生きた日本の大臣という紹介)、小さな木「盆栽」、長い尾を持つ尾長鳥…などがエントリーされているのが嬉しいところだ。本DVD-Rは、米Warner Archiveによるオン・デマンド・DVD-R。リマスター、レストアされていない米TCMの放送用素材をマスターにしているが、数エピソードで、輪郭がボケ、白黒諧調が乏しいものの、総じて大きなキズもなく素晴らしい画質。80年前(!)の作品の画質としては文句なしだ。音声は、トーキー初期の作品ということもあり、若干のノイズがあるが、聞き取れないほどではない。北米盤だが、R-0(=All)なので、日本のR-2プレーヤーで視聴可能。英語字幕は未収録。
