Pro Release II Downrigger Release Clip (Black)

Loving it
I’ve done a lot of downrigging and have recently started fishing for Kokanee salmon but it’s difficult to set my other releases sensitive enough for their soft mouths. I’ve been able to adjust this perfectly for Kokanee one day the the next trip out it adjusts easily for Coho salmon. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the knurled end that you use to tighten or loosen the tension could either be a more aggressive knurl or maybe a wing nut so it’s still easy to adjust when your fingers are wet. Still it’s my favorite release and I’m buying a couple more.

Awesome releases.
Awesome releases. Very adjustable from kokanee to salmon. Love that they come with longer tethers so I don’t have to replace it right out of the package!

Easier To Adjust Than The Chamberlin Release.
I had the Chamberlin release and never got it adjusted right. It was two adjustments. The Pro Release has only one adjustment and it took about 2 trips to get it set just right. I tighten it just a little when I go for Lakers. I dial it back just a bit for Rainbows and Browns that will mostly be smaller at the places I fish. I never wanna use clip releases ever again. They're no good with small fish that you can unknowing drag for who knows how far...??? This won't happen as much with the Pro Release. If it does, it's usually very small fish and it has always released when I was pulling in my line with even a 10-12" Laker or Rainbow. I used to have to pull the clip up to the boat to release it sometimes.

Forget all the other releases
Forget all other releases. This is the only one to use. I have used this release salmon fishing for 20 plus years. Close-pin style downrigger releases either pop off easily or don't release the line for anything under eight pounds. With Pro Release there is a little release toggle that you control to set the pull pressure. I no longer have a boat but when I go with a friend, I bring my own release. This is the only one to have

Works great
Love it for ocean trolling doesn’t trip for no apparent reason but works great when fish hits

Great Product brought back to market
These are great. I've used for many years in Puget Sound for salmon until I finally lost my last one. Tried various other brands but missed these, so I'm glad they are available again. The big benefit is they don't trip when tensioned from above. So they won't pop while you set your rod tension, or if your line picks up the weeds and junk prevalent after tide changes. But if a fish grabs your lure the bail will pop open and release the line. Like others pointed out, read the directions to make sure you set them correctly or they may not work right. Shipped by Priority Mail so they got here a day before estimated time.
