An Inspiration
When I received this book in the mail from amazon, I started reading through it and couldn't stop. This is an amazing story of Dan Eldon's life and his art and journaling, photography and writing. I started in on the book, went to fix dinner and kept going back and forth to the book. I spent the rest of the evening with it, then I couldn't stop talking about it.The beauty of it is a life lived to the fullest and without hesitation and with taking risks. There is so much to see in this book that each time I go back to it I see something that I missed the last time. I love the creativity and the different feelings that come from the different pages.I intend to put some of the other books about Dan Eldon on my wish list because one isn't enough.

Backstory to This Purchase Makes It All the More Memorable
Received ahead of projected delivery date. During Summer 1997, I was working in an airport bookstore. In comes this lady, asking about this title. I confirmed that our other outlets had it on hand. Delighted, she said she was Mark Eldon's mother. She then reached into her carry-on and extracted one of her late son's original journals, a few pages from which ended up in "Journey"... I'll never forget that. Have owned, and shared, several copies in the intervening years. Given time, he might have become our generation's Bruce Chatwin. Alas...

Wholly Worthwhile
This work is beautiful in a way unlike anything else you will ever witness. It is a visual memory of wonders experienced by a young explorer, captured in layers of photographs, paint, stamps, tickets, journal entries, and mementos. It is not a book you can read, but it will take you by the eyes and lead you on a thought-provoking journey.Nothing is going to fall off the pages, don't worry. They are remarkable scans of the original journal pages' texture. The book is an art book, so the pages are heavy and softly glossy. Even the paperback versions are made to last a lifetime. Much more care was devoted to constructing these books than is typical.

A captivating and important work of art.
The Journey is the Destination presents a very unique and enlightening perspective of the world. The pages of this book are alive with photographs, color, and text woven together into intricate pieces of art. If you struggle with the forces of creativity v. compromise then the message here should hit home especially hard. There is much of Dan Eldon on these pages, making this read a very personal experience. Its especially enjoyable to learn that young minds can tackle complicated and important issues for us young folks without being trite, or boring. The Journey is the Desitination is a good book for everyone from the lovers of art and passion to those that want a good coffee table book. I would highly reccomend this book to everyone that wants to experience something important and touching.

Dan Eldon
For many of us who were in college in the early 1990s Dan Eldon was an inspiration. I have heard him compared to the Jack Kerouac of our generation and it is true: driving across Africa, reporting on wars, capturing it all on film and in collage art. Eldon embodied a hope and free spirit that many of us can relate to and still find inspiring after his tragic death. This volume collects his artwork and every time you open the book you are bound to see something new. recommended for those who want the journey and who are less concerned with the destination.

Good buy.
For what it is, I loved this book. But if you don't know already, it's basically ALL PICTURES. The pictures are great and tell an interesting story, but the intro text was not as developed as I had hoped and I wished there was more text in general. For some, this may not be an issue. But honestly it's pretty easy to fly through all of these pictures pretty fast and then it's over.

My son loved recieving this as a gift. I am going to give this as a graduation gift to all the young people in my life.
I gave this book to my son for Christmas. It is a beautiful celebration of a young man's journey through the world. Indescribably beautiful. Funny. Poignant. Both innocent and wise. It is the perfect gift for anyone who has a brave and adventurous heart.

Moving and captivating nook
Throughout the book you are constantly aware that these are the innermost artistic expressions of an extremely talented young man. You turn the pages with a mixture of sadness for the loss of someone with so much potential and so much to offer the world. My only minor quibble is that it would have been nice to have a sense of when and where the work was published. I assumed the book was in chronological order but as this book was published posthumously it may not have been possible. Well worth purchasing if you enjoy art journalling.
