Great read but largely all about how not to get sued, which is a pity really
Well written, well organized and easy to read, which are all important to me because time is precious to me. But ... large tracts of the real estate in this book are comprised of how not be a bigot and how not to treat your employees like dirt basically, which seems a pity really because most of treating people right is directly related to getting that much more out of them, and that really seems like common sense and just good business to me. I've worked in some hostile working environments, probably because I've worked in many different places, and I've been called a Damn Yankee, a Damn Jew, a Damn Socialist, and a few other things - and I'm none of them *shrug* :) ... but still it seems a pity that a book like this feels obliged to be spending most of its time teaching the obvious.

Book should be given to every New Manager!
Excellent summary of the exact skills needed by EVERY manager. I like the chart in the beginning that shows the difference between what is important to an employee vs. what managers think is important. One word of caution. Reading this book was quite depressing as it brought to life the complete and total failure of the current management where I work. All they need to do is care, listen and show a little respect. I don't know why managers are so inept. Maybe they take the easy way out, since it would take too much effort to take a small interest in your employees. No wonder so many employees are actively disengaged.

The New Manager's Tool Kit
I bought this book for my stepson who recently became a supervisor for the first time in his work life. Since he has never had any management experience or training, his mother and i felt he needed some guidance in how to be function as one successfully. While I do not have first-hand experience using the book, he tells me that it has been quite helpful and he has found supervisory approaches in the book that has been of substantial help. In this review, I am simply repeating what he has told me.

Used in Leadership Development Course
This is a really good jump start text for new Supervisors and Managers. It covers many topics that the leader can use to have a better outcome. We used it to assign chapters and make presentations. It worked very well. I have read 100+ leadership books and this makes a nice summary of important topics. Later, one can buy deeper books, if needed. I highly recommend this book. It is also high quality printing.
