OtterBox Armor Series Waterproof Case for iPhone 4/4S - Retail Packaging - Neon (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

See my whole review for my latest update on this case. Oct 18th 2013I have had several tough phones like the Boulder and Ravine. I drove over my Boulder with my Ford Truck and it worked great but a cracked screen. I then upgraded to the Ravine and it served me very well for almost two plus years until water leaked in after one too many hits to the ground from severe drops while working around my house. I finally upgrade to a smart phone and decided on the OtterBox Armor. I would give it 5 stars if they figured out a way to make the case a little smaller. I have dropped it a few times if the first week of getting it, as wells as getting it covered in dust and dirt. My wife asks that I do not test the waterproof feature so not to have to get another new phone if it had gotten wet. It does what it says for being tough, waterproof and drop and crush resistant. I have gotten it wet but the phone stays nice and dry, dust free and no scratches or any damage to the phone. I've shown it to friends and they've been impressed but felt it was a little heavy. I look at it this way, if you want an iphone and you don't want it getting damaged you need to have it protected.The screen cover is integrated in the case and works better for touch sensitivity than the static stick scratch protectors. The jack ports for earphone/hands free and charging ports work and seal very well. All of the side buttons also are fully functional and only the ring off switch needs to be lined up when the phones is installed. As for putting the phone in the case it is super easy and much better than the Otterbox Defender. So far I am pleased and I'll see down the road how it holds up.Follow up to my original view as of Aug 3rd. 2013.This case has taken on many drops, bashes, accidental tosses, cleanings with soap and water and many tumbles to concrete floors with no damage. When friends see my phone in the case I tell them it's not an iphone but an ibrick! Kidding in all but it is a little heavy and bulky but for my abuse to phones it works. What I can say that I don't care for about the case is when answering calls you have to have the volume up high to hear people, unless you are using a blue tooth or wired mic/headphone which you can clearly hear. The other is if recording video it records better for the same reason out of the case because you can't always hear what it is you are recording. The waterproofing for mic and speaker works but cuts a great deal of sound out. The other grip is the camera lens cover is always getting covered with dust, dirt, etc. and yes you can wash and clean it but still if you are out it can cause your pictures to have blured spots from dust and not easy to clean with out washing the case. Other than that the case is great and if you are ever approached by any trying to steal your phone you can use it as a weapon and whack them over the head with it. Great case and worth the price paid.Follow up to my original review as of Oct 18th 2013So I have now had this case for my Iphone 4s for about 5 months now. Would I buy this case again after having owned it for some time. NO! Yes the case is great for protecting your for from getting dropped, dirty, submerged under water and all of the Armor claims. If you always use a blue tooth or wired headset the phone is fine. But if you don't use a headset all of the time it is terrible. You can't hear people when having a phone conversation and people on the other line either can't hear me or they say my voice sounds like i'm speaking through a electronic voice disguiser. It's frustrating to have to keep taking the phone out of the case to talk to someone. I really thing the aspect of hearing the phone without a handsfree headset was pushed aside for cost savings on production. Their could have been waterproof mesh membranes used to improve sound but for cheapness of product only one mic has this and the other mic was covered. The phone is rugged but they just flat out could have done a better job making this case for hearing and being heard. Since I have to often take the phone out of the case to use it I dropped from 4 to 3 stars.

When the hubby and I got new iPhones last year, we immediately drove to Best Buy and put them into Lifeproof cases, thinking they were the best protection. 9 months later, his case cracked at the charging port door. We didn't have them registered with the extended warranty so we bought him another Lifeproof case. 12 months after my initial Lifeproof case purchase, mine broke around the oval lip surrounding the 30-pin charging area. I wasn't going back with another Lifeproof so I started looking at other options and eventually ordered this Armor case from Amazon. If you put the two side by side, the Otterbox feels like it should be worth what you paid for it. It isn't any longer or wider than the Lifeproof but it is about 1/2 the thickness more of a Lifeproof. My hands are size small in gloves and my thumb stretches more to reach across the screen now and it will make your phone heavier. No, your phone will not be waterproof while using headphones but I don't swim with my phone. I just needed a good case that can handle being in the garden, working with horses, getting thrown in the truck and getting lost in my purse (the biggest hazard).It is a little different than the Lifeproof case also when accessing your screen. When you try to hit the top of the screen to make your phone scroll up rapidly, there is a little beval there (~ 1mm) where as it was smooth with the other case. This bevel is mildly annoying and for that I deducted one star. Otherwise, it is super simple to install the phone with 2 metal latches and it does not impact hearing and speaker volume any more than the Lifeproof case did. Sound quality will be affected with any of these cases but the person on the other end didn't notice anything different than before.When the husbands Lifeproof breaks again, we will get him one of these. I would hope they'd have a holster available soon as he doesn't carry a purse. :-)6/20/13 Update: I still love the case and my phone is well protected. Yes, the sound is compromised. I thought maybe I had a defect and called Otterbox. The lady advised me to make sure the phone was aligned in the case properly (centered and pushed to the top. While the sound isn't 100%, people don't have a problem hearing me and I can hear them fine. The back of the case does scratch easily but I expect it to with how rough I am. Also, compared to Lifeproof, the screen protector seems to scratch a lot less. The husband keeps trying to trade cases with me. Uh...no!

I bought this case in July and have been waiting to review it after it had been used for at least half a year. When I purchased, the case was $40 and was a steal, however, seeing that the price has gone up, I'm sure consumers are more weary to by this case. I give the product four stars because it is a great case, however, its not exactly perfect and I am glad I didn't buy it for $100, (the retail price). After a lot of use, the case has begun to show wear around the edges and the hinges flop a little when closed. But, despite those facts, the case is still water proof, dust proof, shock proof and still serves its purpose. Granted I have never gone swimming with it, purposely ran it over, or dropped it from a second story window, but I still have faith that the case will serve its purpose in those severe conditions. I have, though, dropped it in many a puddle and parking lot, kept it out when doing yard or mechanic work, and the phone has remained safe. In the calling department, the phone sound is greatly muffled and I have had complaints about the call being hard to hear on the receiving in. Though, if you're a person like me and do not call people often, then that is not a great problem. If one must make an important call, the phone is easy to take out of the case (just two clasp). For Amazon, the price was fair, and even with free shipping, the case arrived on time in brand-new packaging. In all, this case is a great purchase if someone wants more protection than a defender series case. It is a little bit heavier and bulkier, and the buttons are hard to press when new, but I use the case very day as my main case and it serves me perfectly.

This product is well worth the money, it protects your device from pretty much everything and lives up to its name with few to no exceptions. The reason I docked a star from my rating is due to the fact that after 2-3 months I noticed the rubber on the front of the casing begin to disintegrate and peel away from the hard plastic beneath; This does not compromise the case's functionality... yet. I do wish that Otter Box would look into some more robust and hardy materials for future batches of this product as many customers do not wish to spend this much money on a product they have to replace every 2-4 months.I would recommend this product to anyone from hikers to construction workers who need extensive protection of their mobile devices.

it may protect my phone but it so muffles the sound that I have to take it out of the case during a phone call for anyone to be able to hear me, rather defeats the purpose of the case.

It's great for drops water and everything but sound is muffled just turn up sound higher or open the charging cover to make it louder it's on my phone right now as I type. It is heavy but u get used to the weight over best case iv had.

overpriced for a product that isn't that great. it is a strong case but had many complaints about people in the other end not being able to hear me as I was sounding. muffled.
