Good book - BUT UNDERSTAND ITS PURPOSE BEFORE YOU BUY!
Helps you navigate around Cubase with more ease but it is not a step by step guide on how to use it, more in the way of being a way to make your Cubase sessions faster and more efficient than actually being a guide on how to use Cubase itself. Useful none the less!

Good read
Excellent book, aimed at people with a range of knowledge of Cubase so something for everyone to improve the useability of the program.

Very Helpful Book
I am a newcomer to Cubase and bought this book on the back of other reviews I had read. The way it has been put together is very helpful to someone like me and it has made using Cubase that much easier. I found the quick tips particularly useful. I would recommend this to someone who is new to Cubase and I could see how it could be useful to somebody who is familiar with the software also. Well worth the price.

A rare useful title for Cubase
Out of all the books I have bought for Cubase 5 this is the only one that has actually taught me things I did not know. I have been using Cubase since version 1 (which I still have on the shelf!) and have been a professional in audio for 30 years, so I *like* books that teach me something I do not know.A good purchase.

Very Useful
Although it is not an alternative manual, it is a very informative book full of clever ideas and hints. It covers all what is needed for the user's life to be made easier and it also offers some insight regarding things outside the software itself. The units are cleverly and clearly organised, taking individual care of different aspects such as MIDI recording, audio, the interface/windows, the mixer etc.It will definitely make any (non-pro of course) reader feel that they learn new clever things. What I would like to see which is not there is detailed information on specific issues which, however, do not fall in the category of Tips and Tricks, and as a result, there is no real reason for me not to award 5 stars.

Not what I was looking for
I've been a Cubase user through several generations of the software and had never looked through any books beyond the manuals. This seems to have been the first Cubase 5 book to come out, so I thought I'd buy a book to help me learn some things about the new version. This book isn't terrible, and some people may like it. It has 17 chapters that cover various areas of Cubase such as Automation, Midi Recording, The Score Editor, and the Mixer. The greater majority of the chapters are less than 10 pages long. Within the chapters you find "tips." They don't seem to be presented in any organized order. The tips are alright. As you would probably guess, if you have used Cubase for awhile, you already know a fair number of the tips, you don't care at all about many of the others, and there are a few that will surprise you. I've learned a few things that I never realized that will prove helpful, but the organization of this book did nothing to help me find them. I do not feel that there weren't enough of these things (for me at least) to really justify the purchase of the book. The book looks nice. It has lots of screenshots in it. It may be a weird complaint, but it smells horrible. Really unpleasant. I'm serious. I probably should return it just for that. I don't like to keep it nearby because of the smell. I've never had that happen with a book before. The smell has no impact on my rating of the book, but it really is terrible. There are books out there such as the O'Reilly cookbooks for various computer programming languages that also are a collection of tips, but those books often do it right. Rather than being randomly thrown together tips they present things in a logical order and include little tutorials and explanations to tie everything together. The books could actually be used to learn their subject. They are organized much more logically, and it is easier to find what you are looking for. I wish this book was more like them. As it is, I don't imagine I will refer back to it very often. One other complaint is that the book assumes you have the full version of Cubase. I am using Cubase Studio, and it would have been nice if the tips that refer to features that are only in the higher version provided any indication. Then again, the getting started guide that comes with Cubase Studio had the same flaw.I don't mean to be too negative, but I don't think this book is for everyone. If you get it, you are likely to learn a thing or two that you didn't know that may help you, and maybe that will make it worthwhile. I am hopeful that maybe one of the other Cubase 5 books due out will be of a higher quality.
