The Legend of Saint Nicholas

I purchased the Legend of Saint Nicholas on the recommendation from another person to sell at our Church Bookstore. I think the book is excellent and tells more about St. Nicholas' life than is generally known. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in their child knowing the real story about "Santa Claus". The illustrations are beautiful and in the dress of the time when St. Nicholas lived. My only objection is the picture on the page where the story about the year 325 during the reign of the Emperor Constantine I. The Bishop's hats are fashioned after today's Cardinal hats in the Roman Catholic Church. St. Nicholas lived when the Christian Church was in its relative infancy and the Bishops of the Church did not wear those hats. I wish they had been more authentic.

Great artwork! Well told story! I wish everyone knew the background of "Santa Claus"

This is a beautifully illustrated accurate story of the life of the wonderworker, St. Nicholas. It tells the history of the life of St. Nicholas and how the legend of Santa Clause was derived from his life. A nice change from the usual Christmas stories focusing on Santa, presents, Reindeer, but not really focusing on the meaning of the birth of Christ and what the season should focus on - giving back!! I would recommend it!

I purchased this book because I wanted to talk to my kids about the history of Santa Claus. The book definitely provided historical information on him but was not very engaging. There were very specific facts about dates and locations, which was good but for older kids. My son is an advanced reader, so thah isn’t a struggle; it was just boring to him. The pictures also did not captivate my kids at all. I would say this is much more for 3rd-4th graders. It’s a daily simple read, probably 2nd/3rd grade level with only a few harder words.

Beautifully illustrated book. The whole family absolutely loves it. West Coast books was wonderful! They priority shipped this so I could have it on time for St. Nicholas feast day! Thank you!

For young readers, this book tells the story of how the historical Bishop Nicholas who became the much loved saint saved some young ladies' honour without providing unnecessary details beyond the understanding of those of tender years.

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for St. Nick because as Catholics I like books to go along with the real reason behind something in our tradition. I really do like the pictures and story overall, but I would have to say that I think it's more geared towards older children. It's a bit long to read to a 4 year old still, but I like that it will grow with her and isn't babyish.

Demi never disappoints! The illustrations in this book are breathtaking, and the writing is so well done, it captivates all of my children, young and old.
