FANTASTIC FOUR VOL. 1: FOUREVER

Fifteen pounds of guano in a 5 lb bag
Way too crowded with guest stars. The return of the FF should have been able to devote one helluva lot more time to the actual characters. This read like the writer made a list of things to include then just kept including them until he ran out of space. The major conflict had no real suspense and made next to no sense. Again way too many ideas were thrown at the reader all at once with no time to dwell on any of them. The major conflict and villain were introduced, declared to be Galactus level unbeatable, then the heroes told each other how wonderful they all were and then somehow just won. The art was not really a good Fantastc Four style. Kind of a mix between Archie and one of silver age DC's C list titles. I have been reading them since there 12 cent days, and this book merely reinforces my belief that no one other than Lee and Kirby ever really understood how to make this title work. I wish I could recommend this book, but I can't.

just because I like the FF
2.5 starsIt's not good. But I'm happy to see the original team back together after so many years with different characters, followed by nothing for a few years. Reed is handled well. Ben and Johnny are there most one-dimensional selves (amazing how Johnny hasn't changed since 1962). Sue is Reed's cheerleader. In an effort to defeat "the greatest threat to the multiverse ever" (Sue or Reed actually say this - ridiculous hyperbole), Reed brings in every FF member ever to fight a huge battle. That is over in one issue. Lame. Lame. Lame.

Lackluster reboot
I’ve was expecting more here. The return of Reed, Sue, and their kids was too easy. They’ve been gone for five years their time (less apparently on Earth 616) and believed dead (so I thought), and Ben and Johnny just went on a adventure to come to grips with these developments in Marvel 2-in-One that wasn’t even mentioned here nor was the sudden reappearance of Reed and Sue there. Instead, (SPOILER ALERT) some big bad threatens the Richards, and Reed tricks her into a mega Fantastic Four reunion/team-up.The only interesting addition here is that Ben finally proposes to Alicia. The next collected edition promises their wedding.Do be careful in ordering from Amazon. My copy arrived terribly mangled due to poor packaging.

Marvel just keeps finding lower and lower ways to disappoint fans.
What a complete piece of crap. Utterly devoid of the qualities people look for in comics. And this was a premier comeback story! Can anyone involved with that work look back and say they’re proud of it?

Fantastic four return
The main thing I like here is the art. There's something about the way these characters are drawn that I like. The other thing I like is that we are getting another fantastic four wedding in the next volume. The story is good but I feel like they could've done better. It was all over the place which kind of makes sense based on how the last series ended, and the reunion in the 3rd issue I feel could've been done later on in the series maybe even in the wedding issue. Having all the fantastic four members back together for a wedding that would be nice. Anyway I'm glad that the fantastic four are finally back.

Glad the four are back
It's been a while since we've got the crew back together, and it was worth the wait. The story, dialog, characterization is all spot on. It's like meeting up with an old friend again; he may not have changed much, but he was always a great guy. That's this book in a nutshell.

It's okay
The positives: the FF is back! Slott does great characterization. I love seeing Ben and Alicia moving forward with their relationship. The art is kind of pretty. The negatives: It all moves really slowly. The villain in this one is not interesting at all. It almost feels like a sitcom with a few fight scenes thrown in.

Not a reboot, but the further adventures.
I am enormously relieved to see the FF back. They are older and wiser: RR has a beard, nicely suggesting that something has changed, BG finally has the sense to... wait, spoiler averted, whereas the two junior members......dang. Well, if it weren't so packed with incident, it would be easier to review. The story begins after the Infamous Iron Man series, with Doctor Doom in very different circumstances. There are new venues, new rivals, and a splendid new villain of the "Eternity" class. I shall certainly buy the follow-up immediately it becomes available. An essential antidote to the Avengers-centric smugness of the cinematic universe!

They are back
Prepare for four the Fantastic Four are finally back together again. On earth one year has passed with no word from Mr fantastic the invisible woman and the kids of the Future Foundation but for them they have been remaking universes for over 5 years and they just met a threat that calls for all of the Fantastic four to reunite.

Not a strong start for Slott
I was disappointed with the first four issues, collected in this trade. Maybe it’s because Hickman’s run was peerless, but I was hoping for better from the highly rated Dan Slott. The artwork is first class, but the scripting feels really quite dated and weak. I won’t be purchasing further volumes. A shame.

Great art and a solid re-introduction to the FF.
The art for this volume was excellent the whole way through, and as a fan of the Fantastic Four I found that this was a great way to reintroduce the Richards' to the Marvel Universe. If you're already a fan this is a nice little story and it's a great way to get in to the FF if you aren't already a fan.

Too smug, nothing noteworthy
Sorry to say I was not a fan of this new series start. The team comes across as cocky know it alls, the stories are nothing to scream at and the art, though pretty is nothing worthy of Marvel. Waiting for the day the old strong and compelling art with strong and compelling storytelling comes back.
