Contains detailed training plans for what ever cycling adventure you want to train for.
This is a very detailed and involved book. It covers any type of cycling training you could want. It is very intense and at times a little too technical for old dummy like me, but it does work. This book will get you ready for your first group ride of 30 miles or first 100 mile race. From Racing to Touring to "I just want to be able to ride 30 miles for a charity event" this book has detailed and well thought out plans for it all. Not a cycling for dummies book so be prepared. well written by olympic coaches and experienced cyclists.

A Plan for Every Occasion
I'm a recreational cyclist just getting back on my bike after a few years hiatus, and I wanted a plan to get fit and in shape for an upcoming cycling event. Most books on bicycling are geared toward the serious athlete; this one really is a one-size-fits-all, with detailed plans for basic fitness to centuries and beyond. There are plans for adventure cycling tours and mountain biking as well as road cycling. Training Plans for Cyclists will be a great resource on my bookshelf for years to come.

Comprehensive training reference
Comprehensive training reference for road, touring and mountain bike riding. Plenty of information in addition to training plans--i.e. diet, exercises, stretching. Author is a former coach of US Olympic triathletes. She knows whereof she speaks.

Good set of starter plans
The plans included in this book are very well done. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a starting point in planning out their yearly training.

Actual plans are poorly laid out & annoyingly hard to work from
I bought this book in preparation for a long race mid-summer. The early setup chapters introducing the idea of a training plan, bike fit, nutrition, etc, all looked pretty good. The actual training plan looks promising too.Unfortunately, the actual plan matrices themselves (ie, which workout on which day of which week) -- seem to be expressly designed to annoy. Each day's workout expressed in a short 2 or 3 letter "code". The codes are not at all mnemonic, and they must each be looked up at the back end of the book. And... once you find the right section to look them up in, things aren't alphabetical. In short, the training-matrices are so poorly laid out that you should plan on spending at least an hour re-writing the one you're interested in, while cross-referencing between the plan pages & the appendices. Frustrating.
