A great resource but….
This book is a great resource in general for concepts like supplies, color, examples, and some techniques but It is not an instruction book with step by step processes. Perhaps more for intermediate & advanced artists. The only step by step instructions were one rough still life sketching and one landscape. Nothing special. The book covers dry color pencil & watercolor pencil. The examples of artwork in the last portion are stunning but no instruction how to do it except in general.Bottom line… not for extreme beginners, no step by step, for intermediate & advanced artist. Some good content. Not everyday drawing.

Most highly recommended
I cannot understand the dismissive one-star review and wonder whether we are reviewing the same book! This attractive book has nearly everything in a compact space that one could ask for: discussion of both watercolor and dry pencils, paper types, tools, techniques and procedures, color, and more. It also discusses using pencils with other media, which is helpful: pencils are particularly well suited to being used with other media, yet other pencil books I've found so far treat pencil work in isolation.Included is a gallery of beautiful, striking examples of pencil art to inspire readers, and each of these works has a paragraph discussing their main features. In addition, there is a gallery of subjects for the reader to use as photo references, a wide-ranging, nicely balanced group of still and action pictures.I also like the fact that the same reference photos are drawn by two different artists (Jane Strother being one of them), so you can see different interpretations. An artist can be more or less abstract and free in using photos or painting scenes, and this book is helpful in pointing the way. It is not in the least anti-realist, but neither does it see blade-by-blade photorealism as the only valid artistic response to a scene; the fact that pencils can make fine marks should not put a brake on our imaginations.I have a few colored pencil books, and each has its merits. But if I could have only one, this would be it. In that way, this wonderful resource for artists deserves to call itself a "bible."

Excellant book , I'm no artist and I can see the beauty of it and so will you
This is a beautiful book that goes deeper into what goes into being an artist. When I don't know anything about a topic I purchase a couple of books on the topic to get different points of few. This little books explain everything you need to know about tools and materials , techniques, color, planning and procedures. themed palettes. The layout is exceptional, beautiful and colorful. It explains paper types, sketchbooks, artist's tips, stretching paper etc. etc. Everything you need to know and I mean everything. I wish I could draw and really take advantage of this book; for right now I'm learning and learning is good information for I wanna be an artist too!

Good for beginners
I purchased this book to further enhance my skills with colored pencils. The book itself is small and spiral bound. It has decent content and information on working with colored pencils. Much of the information I already knew but did learn a few things. Good book for a beginner wanting to learn more about their supplies and various techniques, not a whole lot of information however that isn't already provided in other books

Heads Up! I bought this because it was recommended as an alternative to another watercolor pencil book I was considering. However, this book has minimal information about watercolor pencils. It has other very nice qualities, but information about watercolor pencils and that art are not one of them. I was glad I didn't pay much for it because it really isn't what I wanted. Don't buy it if you are expecting watercolor pencil information.

Learning
I bought this to learn how to draw with pencils, having no background as an artist This book seems to require previous artistic experience, so not helpful to me

Great little book...
There’s A LOT of useful information packed into this book. It will be a “go to” when wanting to improve colored pencil skills (for both the beginner and more experienced artist). Being spiral bound is an added bonus (I truly wish more instructional books were made this way). I would definatley recommend this book as it’s one of the better ones I’ve purchased!
