Lake Huron Rock Picker's Guide Paperback – July 15, 2010

Errrrr, no color pictures. I can't find a decent book or information pamphlet which provides color pictures for all the "Secret, Beautiful and Hidden Treasures" which I can look down and find absolutely everywhere in Alpena Co and along the shorelines of Lake Huron. I am fortunate that my Husband's home sits right on Lk Huron. There are literally hundreds of beautiful specimens that can be found within an hour.I have found gorgeous, BIG Petoskey stones which are perfectly marked that would sell easily for over $100 in Traverese City. I saw one in a store which had a beautiful polished finish on top and cut off and unfinished to the underside for $165....This book does have a good amount of information about all the minerals located around Lake Huron but without color pictures it's difficult for the novice to determine exactly what they have in their had. Unless is the obvious Petoskey Stone.Anyone looking for beautiful Fossils, do yourself a favor and make the drive to Alpena County. Amazing finds.

Only three stars because I purchased all three books and had to pay shipping on all three. Shipping came together and cost of shipping should be waved on two of them , if you buy all three books. Overall the books were ok.

I hunt the Great Lakes and this is good resource for identification of finds.

A good guide to understand the rocks we picked up on the beach - how they got there, how they were formed and when, and the geology behind it. Good pictures. A down to earth, easy to understand book, but still has a lot of technical information.

Great book the beach walker who picks up whatever they find interesting and then wants to know what it is. Also has lots of pictures, color. Info on different areas and history. Easy read.

I was looking for a book with rocks from my area and this is a very good reference tool.I found it very informative and the pics of the rocks make it easy to identify those I find on the beach.

Love this book. Took it with us to Alpena when we went rock hunting.Very helpful.

This book made looking for stones so much more fun. I have found an example of every single one of them along the beach from AuGres to Tawas Michigan. A must have for those who love rocks!
