Great introduction to critical care
Following a tradition of excellence this book of the case files series delivers a perfect introduction to all topics of critical care. It will best serve to those who are new to icu medicine - students and residents.

Helpful review
It was a helpful review for my ICU rotation. Doesn't cover a lot of trauma

The topics are definitely high yield, but it seems that this book skipped the editing process. There are numerous typos and the syntax is poor. The text is littered with abbreviations that have not first been defined. It feels like the folks at case files were more interested at getting this book to the publisher quickly than making sure it was well written. It stands in contrast to the well written 3rd and 4th editions of the other case files books. That being said, it still has a ton of information applicable to the ICU. I bet the revisions to come will be better.

Great book to learn how to prioritize the care you give to critical need patients.

For example on the PE and DVT chapter it's super basic.
Very very basic... I m a family med resident interested in hospital medicine.. By no means am I a "expert" or advanced level of knowledge when it comes to hospital medicine..... But this is very very basic. I would hope it went a bit more into actual treatments of diseases (trust me I m not looking for an ICU textbook).. This book is basically step 2 level IMO... ITS ALSO OUTDATED in a few of the topics... For example on the PE and DVT chapter it's super basic...never once mentioned unstable PE, or nothing about the NOACs (new oral anticoagulants).... Just very basic.. Maybe even below step 2 level. The sepsis chapter basically just gives the definition of sepsis and then defines EGDT, no mention of common emeperic treatment courses...etc. asthma chapter states the obvious as well that could be looked up in most step 2 books.I do appreciate books that don't overwhelm you with minutia and random irrelevant info... But this book needs much more... I do like a few of the other books in the series..

Good overview but the information is not always presented clearly
Good overview but the information is not always presented clearly. There are many abbreviations that are never explained, and a general lack of definitions for confusing ICU jargon (meaning you have to look up a lot of stuff as you are reading). Also there are multiple correct answers to the questions sometimes, but only one answer will be explained. Not the best Case Files.
