Exceptional Value
I ordered this axe as something to take camping. Overall I am happy with it.It came in a plastic clamshell with the dullest edge I have ever received, the rubber blade protector is a joke. A lot of work with a file and sharpening stones finally made it sharp. The handle is well made and even had the grain oriented correctly. I am betting that is a fluke though. It comes with a thick poly coating on the handle that just feels wrong. After all if you want a plastic axe handle I would have bought one. After some sanding to reduce the obnoxious plastic feeling finish I am happy with the handle now too. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. If you are willing to clean up the handle and put a nice edge on the axe you will be very happy with this one. If not spend the extra money to have the company do it for you. I would buy it again.

so I waited for the replacement did not take long to arrive but the replacement axe was worst than the first one because this one had the ...
Tremendous quality control fail I received the original order very fast but right out the box I noticed a factory flaw that should have never left the factory because it could cause serious damage to the user as the problem is on the axe head that had a handle hole that was made way to thin on one side as compared to the other side this can cause the axe head to fly off the handle, I called and requested a replacement rather than a refund because I really wanted the axe but not if the head wont stay in place because of a factory flaw, so I waited for the replacement did not take long to arrive but the replacement axe was worst than the first one because this one had the same issue but in both sides and a lot of pitting and blistering on the red paint, I will be sending both back and ask for a full refund this time because I think they are not really listening when I explained the problem and should have been as easy as checking that the aforementioned factory flaw was not present on the replacement as this is a serious safety issue

Great for Kids
They didn't come very sharp. That didn't bother me. A buddy reprofiled them and put a nice edge on them. They're great for a couple ten year old boys to strike fear into trees. As a grown man you'll probably want something better unless you just want a beater for the truck or to take sally camping. They're great for that.

Disappointed. Lesson learned.
As with all things in life, you get what you pay for. This axe is clearly no exception. The axe was shipped with ample protective bubble wrap and tape, which appeared undamaged at time of delivery. After removing the hard plastic Stansport clamshell, I immediately noticed the abundance of wood glue securing the handle. For 15 dollars this isn't a deal breaker to me. However, after removing the black rubber bit guard, I became thoroughly disappointed. There was a noticeable crack, midway up the bit, visible on both faces of the axe.Clearly this defect had nothing to do with shipping and everything to do with the manufacture of this product. This is not a budget axe for utility use, it is a costume accessory. The only way it fits this role is that it is cheap and arrives with a blunt edge, thus the two star rating instead of one.

Impressed for the cost!
Very impressed with the quality for the cost! On the hatchet I received the grain orientation of the handle was perfect! The blade was dull but took a nice edge with about 10 minutes of work! Stripped the varnish off the handle and put a few coats of boiled linseed oil. Head seems to be hung properly and the steel is holding up after reasonable use! Truly impressed, for 9 dollars I don't think there's better!

Edge is way off.
Not a bad little hatchet for the price. The edge is a joke so plan on fixing that. The handle has some cheap varnish on it ,i would highly recommend sanding off.

Not bad
Nice axe head seems secure on the handle but the blad needed some attention a little filing and stone work and it becomes a great little tinder cutter throwing

I thought it was a toy but it's a real axe!
Bought this for my 4 year old son because I thought it was a toy but that's not the case at all. It's a real axe! Good quality & heavy for its size just not what I was expecting. We will have to put it up for when he is much bigger.

Good value great for kindling
Its a strong little axe if you know what your doing. I soaked it over night like the instructions said to hydrate the wood. I hit the axe on the top with a lump hammer to see if I could move the head at it didn't. The axe head is not in line with the shaft but I think for the money it's good, If you want a good axe then spend double the money. It split a 12 inch log which is beyond what the axe Is made for.

Ok for light use
Head looks and feels decent. It it glued from top and bottom with some kind of epoxy.BUT, the handle feels and sounds like it's made from some kind of soft wood, VERY light. Pings like a pine handle. Definitely no hickory, etc. I have a feeling it will break with minimal use like most reviewers have mentioned.I might replace the handle with a hickory one down the road..

From the unfinished bin, perfect for the axe murderer.
Nice balance to the axe. The axe as shipped to me, the head has been stamped but has not been ground at all. As shipped the axe wouldn't be able to chop thru soft butter. Been 3 hours on the bench grinder with it and still not finished with it as there is a lot of "meat" to go through before I can get that razor edge.

Axe
I do allot of camping and day fishing trips. This axe is well made and a decent size to handle. If I could say one thing that would make it last longer is a rubber coating of some sort that can be slid up the handle to be just below the axe head so when chopping wood, one misses so the wood get chipped away as the handle just before/below axe head hits the wood one is chopping.

Don't buy it. Junk.
The media could not be loaded. Save your money. 4th log split and this happened. These were just off cuts from a furniture manufacturer. Not big pieces at all. Very brittle wood.
