Excellent and authentic collection of Haitian recipes
There used to be a street vendor (marchand) in Kenscoff who would sell Bonbon Sirops for 1 cent apiece and I missed eating them. So I bought this cookbook, which was (as far as I could tell) the only source for a recipe for these little cakelike cookies. The recipe was easy to follow and I ended up with Bonbon Sirops just like I remember them. I've made Chicken with Creole Sauce, Sos Pwa, and last night we had Mayi Tiaka. All recipes are well explained, easy to follow, and you get the real thing at the end. There are a lot of recipes and the layout is well thought out. My only complaint is that the book could be more sturdily bound. Mèsi anpil Madanm Menager for writing this wonderful cookbook!

Excellent regardless of price
I have heard that some people may think that $49 dollars is too high, but I've paid higher prices for college textbooks that I did not appreciate as much.I've purchased all three of the Haitian cookbooks that are currently on the market and I love having all three. My mom is an excellent Haitian cook, but I have only recently began my journey at learning the unique style of Haitian cooking. I like to compare some of the technique I've recently learned from my mom, to those included in the book. Also my mom doesn't cook anywhere close to as many recipes as those include in the book. I love my mom's Soup Joumou, but I like that the book has other options. It's worth the money- especially since it is so unique.

I like it...
I think the book is a good book. But there are some things that Are being added to the recipes like soy sauce when in Haiti we do not cook with that. Soy sauce is not in the culture of Haiti. And as well as some other ingredents. I am only 25 and I have to ask my grandmother about the recipes because it does not look right. Also I notice not everything is added to certain recipes when they should be because it is part of the traditional of Haiti.

Good gift gone bad!!
I bought this for my wife whom is Haitian, I bought this as a gift because I love Haitian food so much, the book is good and very detailed in the recipes, but when I got the book home, she got it with the gift wrap torn and message card torn and not able to read what I asked to be written on it, also when we opened the book, it completely fell apart in our hands, looked like the glue holding the book together had given out, and all the pages where coming out one by one. it looks like good book but the service was terrible, I would not recommend this book be bought from this site, since I would not want anyone else to have such a terrible time, thank you..

Love it---helped me cook meals that i would only dream about while being away from home
My cousin told me about this book because i was away from home and could not cook any of the delicious Haitian food my mom would make. i mean i was missing- legume with rice.. and so much more. Now i can cook and my black American husband love eating Haitian food. I showed my mom this book and she can cook and there were some meals she hadn't tasted since she was a child. This a good gift to any Haitian or those that are not Haitian and love eating the food.

nice book but to pricey
this is book was a fine example for haitian cooking there were pictures of the food being presented for some of the meals being prepared so that you can get a hint on how the dish should look like.its in detail about whats to be done next. the only thing i didnt like about it was the price i gotta admit the price is above the average cookbook.but in the end its well worth the dollars spent.

Great Recipes and very Authentic but Quality of the book is horrible.
Recipes and information is great but my reason for 2 stars is the binding of the book is horrible. It's too much information crammed into the type of book binding they used. It's too cheap the book pages is starting to come out after first flip. Very Disappointed

This book has it all!
I give it 5 stars because I was able to find in this book a recipe for a rare Haitian dish called Kabiche/Cabiche. The recipe and look of the dish were slightly different than the ones I remember growing up eating, but it was a start and I could improvise on it. It is nearly impossible to find recipes for Kabiche/Cabiche anywhere.Another 5 stars for the many color photographs of the dishes. Thank you Ms. Cassion Menager for such a wonderfully thorough and informative book of our luscious cuisine.
