I learned to love Turkish food when I lived in Istanbul fifty years ago. At the time I bought a copy of Neset Eren's Turkish cook book when I returned to America. It's a cook book for people who enjoy food, not one for fops who want to be prima donnas in the kitchen. The recipes are for moderately complex dishes but are laid out in an easily followed fashion. It's a cookbook that's been around for a long time and there's a reason for that. The recipes are understandable and the results are heavenly. I'm buying this copy for my son.

A Classic for Turkish Cooking
In Turkish, the word for "master" is Usta, and almost always means chef. It's one of my favorite cookbooks. I've actually worn out a copy from spills and use. It's a bit more traditional, a lot of it is more Osman than modern Turkish. That said, the recipes for mercimek çorbası, the regular yaprak dolması, and especially the meaty grape leaves were so spot on. Following them exactly produced perfect results.

I have several middle eastern cooking books. This book has additional receipts that I really like.
