because the support band comes with the compress compartment - you would need to use with the compress if you are interested in getting the best support and kinda snug/tight fit. otherwise, this is a great product and is very helpful. kinda pricey, but looks to be worth the money spent. in all fairness we didn't know of any other similar products and the toning band - can't say anything about it yet.
