Shefko Stove Cross-Members outperform other compact portable stoves that cost several times more! There are essential items that should be in everyone's emergency survival gear, bug-out bag or camping kit. The Shefko Stove Cross-Members are one of them. With this system you can quickly convert food cans of a wide range of sizes, coffee cans, paint cans and IKEA canisters into a powerful, efficient, lightweight, portable stove. • While other wood-gas stoves require new purchase of additional 'camp-size' stove to serve a group of hungry campers, Shefko Stove Cross-Members can be used with a gallon paint can that can easily serve a group!. • With 7" diameter on the ground, Shefko Stove Cross-Members are much stable on the ground than the regular 4.25" camp stove • Better pot support - While regular camp stoves are suitable for billy cans or small pots only (with approx. 3" between 3 small points, large pots or pans will tip over / smaller mugs or bottles will fall in), Shefko 7" Stove Cross-Members 7" provide full surface support, all the way to the center, and will support even a wide skillet or large pot! • Shefko Stove Cross-Members hold the stove above the ground for improved ventilation, stability and space • With two nested cans, Shefko Stove Cross-Members can even be configured to function as a superior wood gas / gasifier stove! Unrefined and overpriced
I have a smaller version by Evernew, which I use often and really like. Even though it has many corners and edges, none are sharp. Not so here. even through gloves the sharp edges can be felt and the various teeth always seem to me just a couple milimeters off to be usefull in stabalizing them over a alcohol stove or under a pot. So, I hardly ever find use for them.

Works well as an alternative stove
I think that for what this product is, it's a great product. I used this last weekend and was surprised about how well it worked. In about half an hour I was able to create a fire that boiled water using only sticks and branches I could gather and break up by hand. I used a tomato sauce can and punctured holes in it with the "fangs" of the base components. I used the fangs like a manual can opened rather than simply trying to push it through. Rest the bottom of the can on the middle prong and push down to let your weight do the work. I believe I can make a hotter fire next time with more holes in my can. Once assembled there is enough room to continue to add fuel to fire while in use. This isn't going to work as well as a jetboil or gas stove, but I prefer to use it because I can use solid fuels or twigs and branches that are much less expensive and readily available. The product is well crafted and the components fit together very well. It easily supported my camping pot full of food. It was very sturdy once assembled. My only gripe with the product is storage. The components will be dirty and sharp after use and there is nothing to pack them away in. I'm using a small towel to wrap mine for storage but would prefer it came with something similar to a knife roll up bag. It is pricey for what you get, but the metal is thick gauge, quality stainless, that is precisely cut. It seems to be laser cut rather than stamped so the edges are clean with no sharp edges or excess material. I received this kit at a discount in exchange for testing and reviewing the product. I stand by my review and do not give discounted products great reviews if they do not deserve them. I count on honest reviews when making purchases as much as you do!

Good design, but better suited to more experienced campers
I received this set as a free review sample. These are not overly heavy for folks who want to pack light for extended hiking or camping, but the can (that you need to supply) can become bulky. There are sharp edges on the bottom set, so I recommend fabricating a sheath for these or wrapping them in canvas when you pack them. The product photos on this page show how to use them. A quart paint can is perfect for smaller pans, pots and the such, but do be aware that you will need a few sets of these if there is more than a single person in a party. If you are using the Shefko solid fuel discs as a fuel source, you can cut down the can to half height and reduce your carrying bulk.I tried this set with a full sized paint can, ventilated approximately like depicted in the product photos, and it worked well. The cross members will get pretty hot, but they also cool quickly. After an hour of combined heating and cooling time they did not discolor or warp, so that concern that I has was assuaged.Bottom line: these are convenient for experienced campers, but for folks who are just getting into camping and extended hiking may be a bit too complicated. If you are a prepared survivalist, though, a set of these is a nice addition to a bug out bag.
