A Certain Shade Of Extreme
I've been a fan of Incubus for ages and I've loved everything they've done from their big classics like 'Drive' and 'Nice To Know You' to their under rated tunes such as 'Southern Girl' and 'Isadore' and though I had heard most of this album I had never sat down and really listened to it and all it's beauty. It is just a great album, it meshes every from jazz to rap and metal to latin and doesn't make a mess of it, it all fits very well and it sounds like Incubus too. It's almost as if from the off they had their sound and all that's happened is their song writing has strengthened over time. It kicks off with a double knockout with 'Redefine' and 'Vitamin' and it continues to impress and wow even with the lighter more pop-y songs like 'Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song), and of course with the massive nu-metal track 'A Certain Shade Of Green' it just makes the album so complete and solid. All Incubus fans need it and if you want to listen to a successful mesh of pretty much every genre this is also the album for you.Essential Tracks:RedefineVitaminA Certain Shade Of GreenFavorite ThingsSummer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)

Forget The Later Sound, This Is Hard Funk Metal At It's Best (Stunning Bass!)
For once, an album that almost lives up to it's hype - Hard driving, funky, sometimes thrashy & occasionally progressive, this is maybe how the RHCP might have turned out if they hadn't gone in a 'Pop' direction? The sound quality & production are absolutely superb, as is the musicianship. Vocals show a good variety & a decent range. The rhythm section is borderline virtuoso with superb beats, and bass playing that is out of this world - VERY funky, technical and high in the mix. The sampling & DJ work really compliments the music (think DJ Shadow) with genuineley imaginative samples. The guitar work is cool too, with intricate melodies and thrashy riffs. I'm actually surprised in parts just how darn heavy this is!!Fav song; New Skin. It's fair to say that maybe the best songs are at the start of the album, and one or two experiments are a little too indulgent so that's why I don't give 5 stars.I am kind of baffled who the face is on the cover though??!!I'm very reminded with this album of the excellent Mordred from the US Bay Area, who were the first Metal band to fully utilise a DJ within the Funk/Rap Metal format (Do check out In This Life, their 1992 album.)

Nostaligia
Good pressing - no inconsistencies or issues. Nice sleeve and booklet. It was a fun walk down memory lane. This is, is my opinion, Incubus' best album. Nice balance of jazzy funk and heavier riffs. Wish there was more music out there like this.

Masterpiece!
