I have tried Chinese med but was getting worse. At one point i was on mold free
This book saved my life. For last 5 years i was suffering from allergies. Doctors put my on prednison and told me that i will be on it for rest of my life. I couldn't sleep, i couldn't laugh, i was coughing so badly people around me were scared that i have TB At one point i got in hospital and almost died from allergies. All tests for food allergies were negative. I was told that i have ABPA, i was told that i have allergies to mold, to grass, trees ... you name it but not food. i even moved from east coast to west close to ocean, hopping that being in clean and less humid place will help. Nothing was helping. I asked my doctors ( i have changed at list 5 of them) why do i get sinus congestion when i drink alcohol nobody could answer. Another doctor put me on xolair injections for 6 month, which cost me $8000k, didn't work.,doctor told me i have to be on it for one year in order med to work. I have two kids and i told my husband that being on prednison for rest of my life is not an option and i constantly was looking for nontraditional ways to def-fit my sever allergies. I have tried Chinese med but was getting worse. At one point i was on mold free, sugar free diet didn't help, no wonder it is based on protein no carb diet. Then i found this book on amazon ( i bough about 10 different books before) and everything made sense. I have been on histamine free diet for two month, i was lowering my prednison very slowly and as of today i am of it. I don't cough, i do get sinus some time but i use peppermint oil around my nostrils and use homeopathic Similasan, nasal allergy relif and it helps me a lot. I want to scream so everyone will hear me that there is way to cure for almost everything you just need not to give up and keep trying. There is no words to describe my thanks to James L. Gibb.

Lacks credibility
This book is just OK. I came to this book because there is a lot of conflicting information on the internet about what foods are high histamine or histamine liberators, also which increase DAO. I just wanted some straight facts. But here's what bothered me after I read the book: Who is James L. Gibb, and why should I trust him with my health? I read his bio in the back of the book. He's a "university graduate with a diploma of education." What university? What kind of a degree? Doesn't say. It also says he's an "educator, writer and health researcher." Really? Where does he teach? And how is his research fact-checked? Much of this "research" can be found on the internet. In fact, I could see where material from an interview with Dr. Janice Joneha was lifted from a YouTube video with The Low Histamine Chef. Also, he cites Wikipedia as a source, which I thought was kind of amateur. As for the layout, that's amateur, too. Some parts are single spaced and other parts are double spaced. The font also changes in size. It's like this book was just thrown together, without any regard for consistency. Such sloppiness makes me question the quality of the research. Take this book with a grain of salt, and don't let it be the definitive word on low-histamine. I'm sure there is some good information in here, but I'm not sure which parts to trust and which parts I can't. You might get more out of googling Dr. Jance Joneja and reading her book on the subject. YouTube has a few good interviews by her. Also, I agree with other posters on here: the recipes are not very exciting.

not the easiest read
it's a very complicated subject and this book has lots of info in it, but lordie, is it ever tedious to work through at times. I've had some good naps over it. nevertheless, if you think you have a Histamine Intolerance, you should have this book on hand. Not many books are available on this topic here in the US, much more available in Europe, but not necessarily translated into English. and so much of the info contradicts itself, the different authors have very opposing as well as overlapping opinions. Even within the same book finding foods on the forbidden list then only to refind them used in recipes.so, this book is one of the several I have now, it's detailed, contradicting, but still worth having or at least borrowing from the library as one of the several references and cross references. Like I said, this is not an easy breezy read, but on the road to self educating a worthy one.

Mostly junk food recipes with lots of refined carbs; Not what I was expecting
This was not what I was expecting. The first chapter explanation of HI was informative, but it was short. The text is written in large font to make it seem like the book has more content than it does (maybe that's good for older folks with poor eyesight?). Most of the recipes are complete junk food. As part of an anti-inflammatory, low-histamine diet I don't eat sugar, refined carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fats, corn, soy or much legumes. I don't think many people with MCAS can/should either; diet is very important for us. Maybe if you have histamine intolerance for another reason such as a genetic reduction in HNMT or DAO activity, you could tolerate some of the junk in this book, but for me, it was a no-brainer. I'd feel like crap and be dizzy and weak confined to my bed if I ate any of these recipes. I sent the book back immediately! There are other options that are better. For me, I've been using paleo cook books and then just cross-referencing the recipes with histamine-avoidance lists to make sure I substitute acceptable ingredients for the moderate and high-histamine ones. There are also some great FREE low-histamine blogs with recipe ideas. I haven't purchased any low-histamine PDF cookbooks yet, but I plan to once I heal my gut a bit and can start incorporating more variety in my diet.**Disclaimer** I am not looking at the book currently, so I may have missed something worth making.

Over-Rated & Incorrect
There are a lot of books around. This is a synthesis by a journalist who doesn't know anything about medicine. The data is incorrect. Some assumptions are wrong, and contradicted by current research. This book is uninformed and dangerous.

Very helpful - would recommend to others
After recently discovering I may have a Histamine intolerance I set about trying to find out as much info as I could. Many searches pointed me towards this book, and the author's website. I have found this book to be extremely helpful in trying to navigate my new diet, and would recommend it to others.
