Good, but not essential.
I think there are three ways to approach this book: As a Daredevil fan, as a Time Sale fan and as generic comics fan. People who fall into category three will enjoy this book, its pleasantly written and a charming superhero story. People who fall into category number two will be disappointed - Daredevil yellow looks very rushed and unfinished in places when compared to Time Sale's beautifully drawn Spiderman: Blue and outstandingly sexy Batman: The long Halloween. That isn't to say it's bad; it's still a Tim Sale comic and his signature style is always a treat, it just lacks the lustre of his other works. Finally, Daredevil fans will be annoyed, here we have another retelling of the character's origin, this time with almost no detail into his training bar a single thought box and notably (I couldn't get over it) Matt Murdock is an adult when is father dies and adopts the Daredevil persona days after his death. This is a glaring retcon of the character's formation (it undercuts everything in Frank Miller's telling of the story). Having said that this is a love story, more about Murdock's relationship with Karen Page than a meticulous catalogue of his abilities so its technically doesn't matter when put in context.I'd say that this is a coffee table comic book that only die-hard Tim Sale fans should buy.

Loeb and Sale at their best.
I have always been a huge fan of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's work, ever since I read Batman: The Long Halloween roughly ten years ago. Since then I have always kept an eye out on what my favourite pair in comics have done, and I've enjoyed so many of their other books like Superman For All Seasons, Spiderman: Blue and Batman: Dark Victory.Well I thought it was about time I had a look at what Loeb and Sale had in store for a character that is quickly becoming one of favourites in the Marvel universe. Daredevil: Yellow is an incredible book and is now right up there with my favourite graphic novels EVER. If you are a fan of Matt Murdock then I am positive you will enjoy Loeb's story; it's something of an origin tale but with more of a Year One feel. For example, you find out why Daredevil adopts the yellow to begin with and why he changes to the red costume we are familiar with today. If you like Tim Sale (I personally can't get enough of the guy), then you simply must own this book. Sale is on top-form here and some of his work is stunning, just beautiful panels on page after page. Daredevil has never looked so good (risky words I know but the proof is in the pages - Sale's Murdock is brilliant).Overall, if you've ever enjoyed any of Loeb and Sale's other books you'll feel right at home here. For Daredevil fans unfamiliar with the talented duo, you should still buy this book because it simply belongs on your book-shelf, it's that good. You won't regret your purchase, especially this glorious hardback edition. Just a note though, the book's outer-jacket is different than the original picture posted by Amazon (I uploaded the version I received - just as good, if not better!)

DD's early days
Wonderful re-telling of Daredevils's early days. Set within a flashback, this story explores Matt Murdock's motivations for becoming Daredevil in the first place, tells the moving story of his first lost love and leaves him looking to the future "without fear". A must read for any Marvel/DD fan.
