Electronics devices like this PLJX Directed Electronics Gm Self Learning Passlock Override ...
I ordered the PLJX to be expressed from gadget-town and it arrived 10 am the next day, but my local expert mechanic had no clue how to install it. I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier that has a faulty ant-theft Passlock device.Electronics devices like this PLJX Directed Electronics Gm Self Learning Passlock Override are not something typical mechanics know how to install and will charge you a lot, because most are inexperienced in the field of electronics and computer wiring.Auto Alarm and Car Radio Installers typically have the best skills installing electronic devices like this Directed Electronics PLJX.I went to the DIRECTED ELECTRONICS WEBSITE and they have "AUTHORIZED DEALERS" listed like audio and auto alarm specialists.. Most DEALERS charge $85 to install the PLJX. Many have these type of parts on hand.So your best bet is FIRST JUST CALL any Directed Electronics "Authorized Dealer" anywhere listed on the DIRECTED ELECTRONICS WEBSITE to clarify and get feedback what the best device or solution for your vehicle problem might be.If you get your problem solved PLEASE have the consideration to describe the challenge you were up against and give the PLJX 5 stars or less here. I was so disappointed after reading the positive reviews here and in car forums, I really believed there was hope. Trust me THE PHONE CALLS to "authorized dealers" will convince you otherwise.Defeated I finally took my '98 Chevy Cavalier to a local GMC dealer. One former GM employee on the edmunds car forum had this insight to declare about the design of the GM Anti-theft Passlock (punctiation and grammer added):"Being a former GM employee I think GM should cover this DEFECT IN DESIGN ...regardless of the year of the vehicle. We all wondered why GM continued to lose market share..then fall as they did, things like this theft system issue are one reason so many people shy away from GM after having purchased one of their products.""All anyone asks for is a chance to work with pride". ~W. Working so far
There is no documentation with the package, just a little card referencing the manufacturers website. I was more than a little cranky to find a splash screen on that website that states pretty clearly NOT to buy from Amazon and that there would be no warranty if I did. Being brave (and Cheap see below), I decided to press on regardless. Installation is fairly straightforward once you download the correct instructions, i suggest you Google PLJX installation and your vehicle and get the instructions from the manufacturer based on that search. I only confused myself on their website. Be sure to solder your connections and insulate your splices well, oh yeah, reconnect the switchgear on the dash panels before re-installation (rookie mistake I was 3 for 3)..Seems to have corrected the Passlock security fault for $20 and a couple of hours work. WAY better than $700 the dealer wanted.

GM Bypass
Installed on a 98 Blazer which kept dying to fuel delivery problem, originally replaced fuel pump, as vehicle had no fuel pressure, but it still had the same problem. It had a security issue which kept shutting down fuel delivery.Installed bypass module with a few miminal problems, as you can not find the wiring harness for bypassing these vehicles, so had to splice into original wiring harness. It does learn the bypass value and will let the vehicle start and run, before the vehicle would run and at times would not restart which would leave you stranded. For the price and time of installing the bypass, from what I have read is much cheaper than having the dealer replace the body module which is much higher and no guarantee that it will not do it again. If you are handy with wiring and can do a little research, you can do this yourself, but most sites do not give a whole lot of information about installing these items unless you are a registered repair shop or dealer of their items.Meijer also carries some bypass units in their car stereo accessories

Surprisingly I think this did the trick
Had a problem with the Passlock system on a 2005 Cobalt. My limit of 4 stars only has to do with the poor instructions shown on page 3 of their instructions. I found information online stating the "Blue" wire they claimed was used for the ignition on my car was in fact a "Yellow" wire. Once the correct wiring was discovered, I was able to program the Bypass and after a 30 minute relearn corrected GM's fiasco.I did not buy this to install a remote start. I purchased this to correct a Passlock lockout when I attempted to start my car. So far so good. I deducted a Star for poor instructions.

Fixed the Passlock 1 failure on my 96 Grand Am.
Bought this to resolve a Passlock 1 issue I was having with a 1996 Grand Am. I had tried many different low cost solutions suggested off the internet, but none of them worked. I purchased the PLJX and after about an hour installing it, I was able to start my car for the first time in over a year. I thought I was going to have to take the car to the scrap yard because it is not worth spending the money on a new gauge cluster and ignition cylinder. If you are not familiar with automotive wiring don't think that you can just wire this thing on your own. The instructions online assume you know how to locate all the wires necessary to do the job. This is not the fault of the Directechs, as there are too many makes and models out there to write detailed instructions on everything.

Finally something that works.
I gave 5 stars to installation ease, but please remember that's relative to the type of project in general. Was installing remote start on a co-worker's '07 Saturn Ion, just because other bypass modules say they support this car doesn't mean they do. This is the ticket for the Ion, even tells you the correct wire colors unlike others. Just make sure the jumper is actually set for the Ion, it says it's the factory setting but mine was not set that way. Took a moment to figure that out but once I moved the jumper it worked perfect. Instructions are easy to follow and well written.
