Excellent book.
Excellent book. Highly advise buying it. Frankly, I’m surprised at the critical tone of a few reviews suggesting this book is too basic, offers little instruction, and what not. These reviews seem not so much deservedly critical than suggestive of an entirely different book format. I’ve been to the indoor climbing gym perhaps 7-8 times over the past four years and have received helpful but fragmented advice from those patient with my inexperience. Missing from that, however, and short of enrolling in a full class, was something more systematic, stepwise, and complete. This book answered that need. Here, you will find a bit of climbing history, a list of equipment and clothing, rope knots, climbing terminology, scaling wall tec, hniques and strategies, hand and feet placement, body movements, physical preparation, the whys and wherefores of proper climbing, and a host of other topics. It is both informative and instructional, properly and comprehensively presented from A to Z. This book is complete and thorough rather than, as some have complained, too basic or simple. Photos are B/W, good but not great, and several should be more close-up given the detail the author wished to highlight. Overall advice: if starting out in the sport of gym climbing, this book is excellent and just the ticket.

So, So... VERY BASIC
When I bought this book I was a novice climber, with only 4 months of work at my local gym and already this book seemed VERY basic.Would have been good for my first two weeks at the gym, but at that point, even though I was bearly climbing above 5.10 this book didn't help at all.I wish it would have included a 3 to 6 month comprehensive training program so I wouldn't have had to design it myself, improvising with info from this book and other internet sources.Maybe it was that I got good guidance at my local gym which basically covered all the tips showcased in this book, but I insist, a good training program is missing here.
