Digital Audio Technology: A Guide to CD, MiniDisc, SACD, DVD(A), MP3 and DAT

Beware, this is a Technical manual
I bought this thinking I could beef-up my knowledge on DVD-Audio and SACD. This is not what your looking for for in-depth info, its more of a technical engineers manual if anything with hardly any info on DVD-A or SACD with very, very small articles on these topics. I has more charts and technical data on very scientific data that only an engineer can decipher. Its put out by the people at Sony and Philips and gives you the same info that you can get in a tech magazine. Save your money, its not worth it.

For Beginners Only
Poorly edited with lots of outdated info and heavily leans towards Sony equipment. Only recommended for beginners or those with limited understanding of technology.

Book on all CD and related formats.
a book written to promote sony's important work (in conjunction with Philips) in the late 20thC developing the first 12cms diameter optical (sound only) disc, the CD format and then later on its related offspring formats.plenty of pictures of Sony made playback machines eg CD and SACD players but not of the actual discs themselves.other Sony made formats like SACD, DVD-A, DAT and MiniDisc are now historical formats that ran out of steam as far as public interest goes though. No mention of CD-R and CD-RW related but Mp3 is mentioned though.NB Mp3 is now being surplanted by WAV formats as hard drive in Gbytes/$US is always falling with time - 1++Tbyte sized drives now cheap and common. This book is 4th edition in 2001 and is now well out of date as new (in 2009) SHM-CD (universal) format takes the CD format technology closer to SACD.
